Mobile Comics Year In Review: Robot Comics

As we come towards the end of the year, I am going to be reflecting on the state of mobile comics and the changes we have had over the last twelve months. I will be looking at distributors, contributors and publishers.

Robot Comics‘s main strength comes from being one of the big distributors for comics on the Android platform, although they also release on Apple devices too! They also have comics on the DSi and Kindle, so in this they are unique.

With a different way of reading comics – for example, taking advantage of the vibration function on the iPhone – to releasing different comics such as Robot 13 and Ghostboy, Robot Comics are the indie publisher for mobile devices. They are in a unique position of having a large fan base for comics which are off the beaten track. They look at more individual comics and make them available for us to read, which is a good thing as far a variety. Their strong position in the android and Kindle market gives them a market strength yet untouched by other mobile publishers – but I foresee this may change soon.

Hopefully Robot Comics can continue to bring us hits, while continuing to work with such companies as Hukiau to bring forward more creators.
