Link: ‘No Sales Data’

Over at ICv2 is an interesting opinion piece about the lack of digital sales data:

I was just wandering where the sales figures for digital comics and manga are. There is all kinds of sales data for printed comics, but no sales data for digital comic sales. Might that be because the publishers do not wish to share that information with the brick and mortar stores? Hmmmmm, I wonder why that is? I wonder if the increase in digital comic sales reflects the decrease in printed comic sales? Am I the only retailer asking this question? If you think I sound paranoid, then where are the sales figures for digital comic sales?

A Graphic History of the Honduran Coup

Dan Archer and Archcomix have an interesting take on the mobile comic format:

iPhone Screenshot 5

An excellent idea which links the comic with the news medium. I would like to see more of these!

Download it though iTunes here

The first ever iphone app to convey the news in comics format, providing clickable links to sources and evidence cited. This app focuses on the dramatic events in Honduras between June and September 2009 that saw President Manuel Zelaya’s removal from power. Produced by John S. Knight Journalism Fellow Dan Archer and n+1 Editor Nikil Saval, based on their comic of the same name. For more journalism in comics format, visit: www.archcomix.com.

The app’s goals are to: present news coverage in an innovative visual medium; introduce readers to central american news, and why it matters in the US; and present some historical context to US involvement in the region over the last century.

“A journalistic take on the Honduran crisis whose attention to context puts conventional media coverage to shame”
The Guardian UK

“Archer’s gift as a storyteller is his ability to quickly distill enormous and complex amounts of information into easily-digestible images.”
The Comics Journal
