Review: Cubicles

‘Cubicles’ is the latest title to come from Red 5 comics as part of their digital first program and it’s another excellent read.

“Cubicles” stars Wally and Ost — two ordinary guys with ordinary desk jobs, complete with
monotony, tension relief, horrible bosses and office crushes. But the pair’s tedium is about
to be shattered by galactic pirates, savage aliens, and space squid all wanting to destroy
their company. Can Wally and Ost save the day? Get the girl? Maybe even get a raise?

Red 5 have hit another home run with this title with some off the wall commentary and some nice twists to the storyline to the very end!

I was little worried when I saw the black & white art in this but the inking and style make up for any lack of colour – in fact I think that colour may detract from the overall feel of the title.

This story pull no punches while rushing you from one location and event to another – leaving the reader breathless in keeping up. Pencil fighting should now be included in more comics and I hope to see the next inter-company crossover have this in some form!

From the office to outer space to planet side to a space pirate ship you really get into this story and want to see what happens next!

Art wise this fits well into the story, with some excellent action sequences and some big panels which get a lot of detail. the characters are easily recognisable and fun in the same ways.

In all this is an excellent all-ages comic which I will be reading with my daughter!

“Cubicles” is told in seven chapters, but the digital graphic novel collects the entire 84-page
story for just $3.99 — the price of some single comic issues. If that doesn’t convince you,
the first chapter is available for free for a limited time.
“Cubicles” debuts today and is available now on the web, iOS and Android devices through
comiXology (comic.comixology.com) digital platform. It will available this summer through
digital partners iVerse, Graphicly and Panelfly as well.
