Review: 2000AD – Prog 1786

One of 2000AD’s strengths is the introduction of stories and pace of the changes that happen. If you missed a few, or took some time off reading, it doesn’t take you long to get back in.

That is how I am feeling with the current arc of Judge Dredd: Day of Chaos.

Now I was late getting to the Day of Chaos arc, but there are occasional one shots within the story where you get some ideas on whats happening – or will be!

Wot I Did During The Worst Disaster In Mega-City History is a one-shot story embedded into the Chaos Day arc. With no judges (except the Dark Judges! – Sans Death) we get to see what Judge Dredd foe P J Maybe is currently up to. It’s good to see characters like this occasionally, to keep them fresh in the mind, but to prevent them from going stale.

We get to see some more from Durham Red in The ‘Nobody Wants this Job’ Job – again there are some nice touches here, with Red putting lipstick on in a mirror she can’t see her reflection! The twist in the tale – or job, is that the target is an obviously respected figure in his world! There’s some good action and suspense here – and a comedy partner who doesn’t look like he’s going to make it!

Grey Area: One of Our Own moves along fast here with some excellent art (especially the aliens), but there are some parts in the story where I feel a little lost!

We get A guide For Prisoners Arriving From The Year 2149 in a classic Future Shocks  tale. These always seem to cover time travel so well, and for any fan of Future Shocks you know what you’re going to get!

The return of one of my favorite characters in Nikolai Dante: Sympathy for the Devil looks like we are entering the end game in this massive story of a futuristic Russia. The return of the Tsar and the aging of Dante is very well done, and I can see this is going to be a bittersweet story!
