Review: 2000AD – Prog 1810

We get more from Mega City one with three stories covering the ‘Cold Deck’ story-line. A mention to the cover with a very traditional 2000AD cover which harks back to when I was a kid! (Especially with Ro-Busters on the front!)

Judge Dredd is where it all make sense – with the hammer dropping and revelations coming out. There are still things to be revealed and problems to be sorted, but I feel we’re on the home straight of this excellent story. One of the things I like about Dredd is that he isn’t smug either.

Low Life is a bookend to the storyline – with the reactive parts happening here. Again, Dirty Frank shows why he is one of the best characters in 2000AD with the flipping between serious and whimsical. Again, we get information here which increases our understanding to the whole ‘Cold Deck’ storyline.

The Simping detective provides the other bookmark to the Cold Deck, with this coming from the other direction. I worry that Point is going to be a one-hit story, which is a shame, because there could be more from home – hopefully prequels maybe? Again, here, everything starts to slot into place, with some added suspense including sleep machines!

I hope that 2000AD is going to collect The Cold Deck into a trade, but I wonder how they will do it with these additional stories!

ABC Warriors adds some nice history in with the creation of Ro-Busters and Hammersteins reactions to it. Mek Quake has some excellent dialog here, and any long time 2000AD reader will enjoy this revisionist look to the past!

Brass Sun hits a lull, but manages to keep the story going, hopefully this will be split into separate stories with breaks in between to stop it from getting stale. Nevertheless, this was well worked with an excellent final panel that is going to move the story into a different direction.
