Review: Cancertown 2 – Blasphemous Tumours

The team return with another amazing six chapter epic from Cancertown!
Continuing where the first volume left off, Cancertown 2 adds more to the myths of this dark and scary place.
We feel ourselves being dragged into Cancertown as the story does too. Bugfuck and the rest of Cancertown’s residents make for a terrifying story which has an additional blend of humour and drama too!

Vince Morley is a dangerously sick man. Within the monstrous alternate world of Cancertown, a creature of horrific violence and limitless rage has burst from the nightmare landscape. The foundations are shaking and the old powers are falling. In response, the deadliest of Cancertown’s inhabitants seeks Morley out to claim a favor that could cost him more than just his life.

There are some amazing scenes here and Cy Dethan’s writing pulls you through the story and just when you think you have a handle on it it drags you away! Reading the story in the six chapters you get a feel of the whole world created from Dethan’s mind. Flipping from the ‘real’ world and Cancertown there is a mental crashing of gears where the speed and direction changes. There are some excellent pieces of dialog here too!
Graeme Howard’s art is immense here – with an amazing combination of close quarters and landscape style scenes. In some scenes you feel the darkness is closing in when reading it – in some aspects the real world is darker than the Cancertown world.

A special mention on art duties must be to Peter Mason, who adds some excellent atmosphere to the story – especially in scenes like above.
In all this book is a massive team effort, and last, but not least is Nic Wilkinson’s lettering which adds a voice to all the characters in a unique way.

Cancertown is a special title, which is always worth buying in either print or digitally. It may be advisable I to have all the lights on while you get dragged in!
