Bluewater: Elizabeth Taylor Ready For Her Close-Up In Comics

ELIZABETH TAYLOR READY FOR HER CLOSE-UP IN COMICS

Some say Elizabeth Taylor was the last great movie star. Her talent, beauty, feistiness, and glamour catapulted her to stardom and she handled her success with grace and generosity – and sometimes a little sass. This new comic book features the life of Taylor for the 1st time in the comic book medium. “Tribute: Elizabeth Taylor” shows Elizabeth as the down-to-earth diva she was, as told from the POV of one of her BFFs: Her beloved Maltese Daisy.

Comedic writer Dina Gachman, who writes for Forbes and Huffington Post, and whose blog Bureaucracy for Breakfast was featured on both NPR and Chelsea Handler’s Borderline Amazing Comedy, writes the collectible comic book. Nicholas Justus, who has done comic book biographies of Gabrielle Giffords & Arianna Huffington, drew it. Cover art is by Apriyadi Kusbiantoro.

“Elizabeth Taylor was gorgeous, talented, and fabulous, but did you know she was also a bawdy broad who loved a good party and used to say, ‘I, along with the critics, have never taken myself too seriously’? She has the Oscars to prove any critics wrong, and this book is a breezy jaunt through Taylor’s life that’s narrated by someone very near and dear to her heart: Her beloved Maltese, Daisy. There are plenty of serious biographies out there about Taylor, but this one’s different. It’s told in the spirit that we think Taylor herself embodied: Playful, fun, and full of love,” said writer Dina Gachman.

“She was a serious actress who kept things light, and this book is dedicated to all of her fans, old and new. The Lifetime movie Liz & Dick that just aired depicted her as a crazy drunk for the most part, so hopefully this comic can show more sides of Taylor, and introduce a generation that might not have seen her films to her life and accomplishments. I did a lot of research, watched interviews, and read books like Furious Love, which is about Taylor and Richard Burton,” Gachman continued.

“The Tribute line of comic books tells the stories of the classic entertainers that have passed on,” says Bluewater publisher, Darren G. Davis “It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world.
