Review: 2000AD – Prog 1839

A suitably foreboding cover for this weeks 2000AD – with the Ten-Seconders returning in excellent fashion! (More later)

Judge Dredd’s procedural story continues in Wastelands with Dredd following leads all the while the villains are trying to mop up any loose ends. It’s a simple, but enjoyable story – flitting from character to character with a suitable amount of action that suits the beginning of the title. We seem to be moving towards the end game as Dredd closes in on the surfer gang, finding bodies, but at the end is very close!

Defoe continues this new arc – The Damned, with the Reeks breaking through with some help – but has he blamed the wrong person. The siege situation make some crack and there is a nice tight feel to the story – we’re in early here, and new readers can still get into the basis of this excellent story.

The final Cadet Anderson issue of this story – One in Ten gives a small ending, that could lead onto something in the future. It’s been an enjoyable read with some good sense made of the final scenes. These continue to be good simple reads for all.

If Sinister Dexter wasn’t In Plain Shite at the beginning of the story, he sure is now. With a lot of gunplay, cyborg guns and an ample amount of humour in this issue. Finny makes a decision at the end which may cause him more problems – I’m more into this story than any other Sinister Dexter story for a while.

Finally the Ten-Seconders return with a nice violent recap and a build up to a monumental arc. The art and storytelling are spot on and I love this 2000AD look at ‘capes’
