Reviews: Darth Vader, Quake & Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire

Some of the latest Marvel digital comics – reviewed!

Darth Vader #9

Vader has a new mission to do for the Empire. Unfortunately, it’s completely at odds with his own mission. What’s a Dark Lord to do?

I’m still enjoying this series, as we see a new foil to Darth Vader’s mission and I for one kind of like him – I’m not sure how long he will last though….!

In the meantime, we get a look into Aphra and her mission – there seems to be a link to Naboo, which is a very interesting turn up, I’m interested to seeing how far this goes and the ramifications to Vader!

Quake: S.H.I.E.L.D. 50th Anniversary #1

Family reunion! Learn why Quake makes the perfect agent for S.H.I.E.L.D.. When a group of Inhumans get involved, Quake finds out exactly how far she’ll go to finish a mission.

More celebrating the 50th anniversary of S.H.I.E.L.D. with a story about Quake – AKA Daisy Johnson. This looks into her joining the Avengers field team and her reaction to it. We start at the ending, and then, via flashback look at how she feels about joining the A-Team! There are some interesting points here, but the most is the one from Captain America right at the end! A nice one-shot.

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Shattered Empire #1

Emperor Palpatine’s twenty-year reign of terror came to an abrupt and fiery end in the skies above the forest moon of Endor. A decisive victory for the Rebel Alliance, to be sure, but even with the loss of its leadership, the Empire’s Moffs and regional governors retained their hold on important systems from the Core to the Outer Rim, thanks to the might of the Imperial Starfleet. Now, with a power vacuum atop the Empire, those Moffs will jockey for position and control, and the heroes of the Rebel Alliance will soon discover that a wounded and fractious Empire may be more dangerous than any threat they faced before! For the first time in the new Star Wars canon, journey with us into the time after the end of Return of the Jedi! Writer Greg Rucka and artist Marco Checchetto take us past the destruction of the second Death Star into the chaos of a Shattered Empire.

262876._SX640_QL80_TTD_This is a slow start – introducing some new characters and catching up with some from the end of Return Of The Jedi. For some reason I liked the bits with Luke the most, as that bit was never wrapped up in the movie. I especially liked the reaction from Han to Lando when he asks about the Falcon – perhaps a new sensor dish is needed! I’m interested to see where this will all lead into!
