Reviews of two of Dark Horse’s latest digital comics
Barb Wire #6
Grilled like a tough steak by mysterious federal agents, Barb Wire recounts her very first solo bounty hunt. What looks like an easy-money walk in the park quickly turns to a holy-@#$% run for survival as Barb discovers that her skip is hot property . . . and his pursuers don’t play!
This issue is told mainly in flashback as Barb tells the story of one of her first solo runs – catching a gifted individual! We get a quick idea of his gifts as he makes life difficult with his agility and speed. Barb manages to catch him though, and that’s the beginning! She’s chased through the streets and although Barb manages to escape there is more to know – like why these agents are so interested, and why they think she can capture him again!
Mystery Girl #1
Trine Hampstead knows everything. Ask her a question like “Where are my keys?” or “Is he cheating on me?” or “How are there perfectly preserved mammoths in recent ice?” and she just knows. She’s the Mystery Girl. The only thing Trine doesn’t know is how she knows—or anything else from the last ten years of her life.
A new series from Dark Horse and based in London too! – for the time being. What we have here is a unique character who can solve any mystery, but she doesn’t know how she can do it. Although she makes out that it doesn’t bother her, you can see it does! There’s a lot of build up here, with characters and supporting casts being introduced, but it looks as if the next issue will be very interesting with travel to foreign lands and woolly mammoths. I’m looking forward to it already!
