LSCC 2016 Round Up

A bit earlier this year, but we’ve just had the 2016 London Super Comic Con.

I really enjoy this Con, with it’s mixture of comics, cosplay and merchandise. It’s always fun to catch up with old friends and see the new talent emerging. Here’s my round up!

T-Pub – The team behind Twisted Dark and Turncoat seem to get bigger and bigger posters every year! There is a lot going on there and many volumes to buy from them – coming soon will be a Kickstarter for Turncoat!

Roach – A brilliant comic which looks to be released digitally soon (I hope) I got the first issue and really enjoyed it!

Earth’s lowest life form just got high. Catch the first stupefying adventure of Earth’s slackest hero.

Mayamada – not just a manga, but more – some really great concepts here and an whole batch of items,  merchandise and more to go with it!

COVERISSUE1edit

Stiffs – Available in print as well as digital – one of the first monkey related comics this year!

Stiffs is a comic by Drew Davies, Joe Glass, PJ Montgomery, Gavin Mitchell and Adam Cadwell and Kris Carter. Zombies, monkeys, and more!

Set in the South Wales Valleys, it follows the adventures of Don Daniels and his talking, stoner, pain-in-the-ass monkey sidekick, Kenny McMonkey. That’s right, a talking monkey. Sold yet?

No?

Well, the adventures involve killing the undead. Turns out, there’s a lot more going down in the woods at night than underage drinking and late-night shenanigans. Zombies prowl the outskirts of town, and it’s up to Don and Kenny to keep the flesh-munchers at bay.

Well, what else are you supposed to do when you spend your days in a mind-numbing, soul-crushing dead-end job? Of course it’s time to get out the crowbar and smash some skulls!

So what you waitin’ for? Get yourself Stiffs today!

Alien In The Outfield – available in print or pay what you want digitally, this is a great read and some fun stuff available from these guys!

Alien in the Outfield is a new four-part all-ages comic book from writer Jack Kirby and artist Mat Barnett. It should be pointed out right from the start that Jack Kirby is not the late legendary Marvel creator with whom he serendipitously shares a name – but an all-new Jack Kirby who happens to have the advantage of being very much alive.

The Gee Bees – available in print this was really interesting read –

A collection of stories featuring our range of characters. You will meet Gideon Black and his assistant Katrina, factotums of The Foundation, as they race across time and space matching wits and fists with the evil machinations of Maximilian and his grotesques; then there’s Gabrielle Noir, darling of the French resistance, and her “confidante” Katrina, fighting the forces of Nazi Germany in war torn Paris; or perhaps you will meet Gideon Black, the holy man of Harlem, and his daughter Katrina protecting the people and going up against both The New York Foundation and Maximilian and his grotesques. And finally there is Gideon Black, Victorian monster hunter, and his wife Katrina (and two, maybe three children) fighting the good fight for The Foundation….

It’s always nice to see some of the big publishers there and Avatar Press were there with a Kevin O’Neil signing going on. I got myself a copy of War Stories by Garth Ennis. Si Spurrier was there on Sunday with his excellent speaking voice as well as Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool

Zenescope Entertainment have been a mainstay of LSCC with a large amount of Con exclusives (I got some of those) and they always seem to be enjoying themselves.

Orangutan Comics were also in attendance, and it was nice to chat to them about webcomics to print to digital comics!

20160221_155002

Also 2000 AD were there, I had a good chat about how the digital sales were going, comixology, and apps in general. 2000 AD always have a larch amount of merchandise to sell and this was no different.

20160221_162223

We also had Titan Comics and they were giving out free previews of what they have to come – there are a lot of licenced properties there – Doctor Who, Assassins Creed, Independence Day….

20160221_160146

Big Punch Studios were also there, with their ever increasing size and sales. Jon wasn’t there for the photo opportunity, but they’re always good fun!

Illustrator and comic artist Sian Jefferson had a good chat with my daughter – on both days! – we got a copy of her mini comic “The Adventures of Soosh!” but also check out “The Book Of Fey”

Webcomic Widdershins was also in attendance, and they are always fun to speak to and I’m glad to see more and more of them!

Naomi Indigo was getting everyone to sign up for their #0 comic and I’m looking forward to seeing that in my inbox.

20160221_154108

Naomi Indigo is a Transmedia Future Noir narrative, which can be followed in comics, online, and On Demand. Set in a future where reality, and most of humanity, has been transformed by a viral idea, a private eye named Naomi Indigo searches for clues and forgotten truths in order to save what remains of our world.

I always look forward to getting my yearly edition of Moon – I would recommend this! Their site is going to be updated soon and I look forward to seeing more of them!

20160221_153302

We met someone new! Well, I did – as my daughter was away drawing I met George A. Gechev from GG Comics – we got Annie + Zaro and my daughter loved it!

20160221_162031

Lloyd & The Bear is a favourite of my sons and we got him the collected edition.

Another Kickstarter to look out for next week – Shit Flingers – another ape related project!

For their part in a terrible crime a group of 15th Century French soldiers are forever cast out from the world of men when they are each cursed, transformed into a different species of ape, by a powerful witch. Captured by The Inquisition they are smuggled to Rome and coerced into the Bestiary; a secret organisation located deep beneath the Sistine Chapel.
Led by their new employer, a young Thomas De Torquemada they begin a new life fighting occult monsters, demons and the heretical enemies of the Church.

The Close 2 Immortality team were there in big numbers – their site is going to be up soon and I look forward to see what they’ve got!

I’m sure there are some I missed and for that I’m sorry, I’m sure there will be more to come out of LSCC in the coming weeks!
