Reviews: Avengers Standoff: Assault On Pleasant Hill Omega, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Drax & Star Wars

Reviews of some of this weeks digital comics from Marvel Comics

This issue bookends the Standoff series nicely and looks to move us into Civil War II and the new Thunderbolts series…as well as other things! The action is pretty big, with all the main characters getting some action time on the page. Kubic seems an interesting character and her relationship with Bucky will be one to watch going forwards. Other than some of the crossovers I haven’t caught much of the inbetween, but this wraps it all up!

We start a new story arc in this issue of Daredevil and I see it as a good jumping on point. We get a quick round up of where Matt is now, why and the usual hints as to how he got there. This issue nicely splits between the lawer Matt and the hero Daredevil with some well done flashbacks and link up between Matt and Elektra and Daredevil and Elektra. Blindspot gets a brief cameo and is quickly out of the game – then we get the kicker that can change everything on the last panel!

We move into the second act of the Last Days of Magic and everything seems to to be lost as the magic of our world is all but lost. There seems to be a way out and we get some good cameos from other magic users in the Marvel U. Doctor Strange takes the lead in this issue – he should, it’s his title and we get the others following. We also get a bit of an origin from the The Imperator which makes a twisted sort of sense. Now that magic has gone underground, where does it go now?

After fing Fam Foom Drax has a new mission – get these children home. As we know, this wasn’t going to go to plan! We get introduced to new characters as Drax and his current companions run into pirates and bounty hunters – but manage to avoid cannibals (for now!) This is a nice starting point for new readers and old. The action and humour are excellent, as well as the comments about Drax and his quest to kill Thanos

Aside from a brief couple of pages at the beginning and the end, this is mainly about Leia and the prison break. Leia and her team have to fight their way from cell to cell and there is some argument between Leia, Sana & Aphra. They all have different ideas and are pulling in different directions. It’s well worked as we move through. The link between the bounty hunter and Leia is interesting, as well as the knowledge he has – not only about Leia, but also about the Emperor. The last page throws something extra into the mix which may or may not be a good thing.
