Reviews: Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Darth Vader & Illuminati

The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. polished the little ‘incident’ at Pleasent Hill trouble and now are moving back into their groove. We discover exactly what is wrong with Simmonds and things don’t look good for her as she makes her position clear on the situation in a touching scene with Deathlok. I hope they work something out, as there is some good scope with her. Meanwhile we find out the power behind the thefts of the Coulsdon files – a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who should be familiar to those who watch the TV show – it’s an interesting spin as we get some of the background and then some of the plan that seems to be going into place from Hydra. The stakes are high, with the fate of all the heroes that can be defeated on the line!

A new story arc for Darth Vader and this seems to be the last arc from this team as Darth Vader is finishing with #25. We get a lot more time with the Emperor, with him explaining to Vader his plans and motivations. We even get a little sass from Vader to the Emperor, which is quickly glossed over, but made me smile. It looks as if this arc is Vader mopping up – his plans and the result of the other plans from the Emperor. Vader’s little meeting ended quickly, and I understand the ending, but it’s a bit of a shame to see the end of such an interesting character. We also get a short backup of the two droids looking for repairs, with the associate of Aphra working out who the droids are and giving us a little of their back story – I would read that too!
This still is the best Star Wars series and it will be a shame to see it end, so enjoy this final arc!

Talking of endings, this was the final issue of Illuminati with some endings happening, while some are left ambiguous – I suppose some of the answers to those could be dealt with in another title. We get the fallout from Standoff and some nice fight scenes as everything pretty much gets put back into the box – with the status quo returned to some semblance of normal. This did seem a somewhat rushed issue with all the characters being dealt with in one way or another. The scene with the Enchantress and her imposter was well done, but again it was a shame as more could have been done with this situation.
