Madefire partnered with the producers of Alan Tudyk, PJ Haarsma, and Nathan Fillion’s hit web series Con Man to produce a Motion Book of the comic “Spectrum” – the show within the show.

Con Man, which stars Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) with Fillion (Firefly, Castle) as actors from a canceled cult sci-fi show, is a comedic look at the wild world of fandom and conventions. Spectrum, is the cancelled TV show that launched their characters’ careers. In the comic, a vicious attack from an alien invading force devastates the globe, but the prophetic dreams of Captain James Raaker warn that the suffering has just started. Humanity’s last hope is escape in an untested spaceship built by a madman.

The four-issue “Spectrum” series from Con Man Productions debuted on Free Comic Book Day, May 7th, 2016. The first “Spectrum” comic book order was over 100,000 copies. The comic series is written by Alan Tudyk and novelist/producer PJ Haarsma (“The Software Series”) with artwork by Sarah Stone (“Transformers”) and overseen by Shel Dorf Award-winning editor Shannon Eric Denton.

Commenting on the Motion Book project, Con Man star, and “Spectrum” comic co-writer Alan Tudyk said, “ In an attempt to save trees, the comic just got badass. We lived the world of Spectrum and wanted to build it out across multiple platforms. Comics are an excitingly visual medium. Plus, I wanted to get on a spaceship again with Nathan.”

“With all of the action, intergalactic exploration and incredible space vistas in Spectrum, teaming with Madefire for the motion comic was a way to give the fans a spectacle worthy of this incredible property!” – PJ Haarsma

The first season of Con Man is now available on Vimeo, Amazon, iTunes, and DVD/BluRay. Season two will debut in late 2016 on the new subscription streaming video service from Comic-Con International, and Lionsgate – Comic-Con HQ.

According to Madefire CEO Ben Wolstenholme, “The ‘Spectrum’ Motion Books are stunning. Highly kinetic and totally different to reading print, perfect for a company breaking new media ground.”

Motion Books are an interactive reading experience created with Madefire’s Motion Book publishing tool. They offer a benchmark digital reading experience complete with music, motion and sound effects.
