Some thought on the digital comics I read from Marvel Comics

As the build up into Civil War continues, we also get something deeper in SHIELD – the Coulson protocols also seem to be building up to a conflict within SHIELD as this story arc ends. There are some nice parts here, as the Avengers team up with SHIELD to defeat Gorgon, Ward and Hydra. It’s very well done, and seems to build well to the next arc from AoS.

A new story arc kicks off here with Matt gambling as part of his investigation. Most of this issue is in Matts’ head, not only as we have flashbacks, but also his method of playing poker – he plays the player, not the cards. on top of that, one of the players is a telpath, so back into Matts head we go as he fights off this intrusion into his brain. It’s all very interesting with this action-lite issue. It looks to be building up, with the addition of a guest hero next issue!

Darth Vader’s quest takes on two aspects here – first there is the hunt for Aphra which is sorted in quite short order by the droids – it’s to the point and nicely done. I worry about her fate though…. Next up is Cylo and his modified minions. He seems to understand what is happening and how it is going to pan out, but a Dark Lord of the Sith is not to be trifled with. Four issue left, so there is still a lot of ground to cover – Next up we have a big fight for Vader!

We come to the end of this Deadpool mini series and I’m pretty sure I heard that this will be re-launched as an ongoing – which maybe why there was a question mark at the end! It all fits together with some action and some nice bits of the Mercs fighting off the group they fought in the first issue. Deadpool and the gang don’t get paid, but there is also no vengence on them either, so I’m calling it a draw! Evil Deadpool has his part to play as well and then we get a nice twist at the end!

We come to the end of the arc here (I thought this was a mini series) and I’m not sure that I will be continuing on with this series. The Star Wars titles have been hit and miss so far. This issue gives us what was in the mystic egg the locals were guarding and there is a combination of a big battle on the ground (not the rebels/First Order) and the ships above the planet.

Thunderbolts had a strong start with a lot packed into it. This issue slows down a little bit. I’m currently on the fence with this title – I want to like it, but I’m not sure as to the direction it is going in. The art is fine, in fact it seems to be improving and the characters aren’t bad – it’s just some of the conflicts within the team are obvious and beginning to bore me! I’m not sure about the cliffhanger either!
