Reviews: Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy & Weavers

My thoughts on two comics from Boom! Studios

This is the series that all of us wanted, but perhaps, none of us expected, so I really want to see this mini series do well. It starts quite equally, with both the students from Gotham Academy and the Lumberjanes investigating a disappearance – one from the staff of the academy, the other being the camp staff. Once the set up has been completed, and Olive, Maps and the rest escape to the woods, we get the combination of the Gotham Academy and Lumberjane groups. Things at this point get a little blurry, but it is a large cast and we have six issues for them to shine. The ending of this issue helps with that by splitting them up. I’m sure we will get some interesting combinations….

Building on last issues debut, this issue slows the pace slightly and gives us more of an insight into the Weavers, their powers and their origins. The origins are deliberately vague, as they don’t really add anything to the story at this point, what we do learn about is more of the Weavers and their powers. This is all building up to a very interesting story, and there are mysteries and more, as the ‘spiders’ know. The art and colouring is excellent, and I look forward to #3!
