Reviews: Champions, Moon Knight, Nova, Doctor Aphra & The Unworthy Thor

Champions #3, Moon Knight #9, Nova #1, Doctor Aphra #1 & The Unworthy Thor #2

My thoughts on some digital comics from Marvel Comics

Quickly dealing with the fallout of last issue (no big battles, but…something else) the team move on the assist some ladies in an Arab state. It’s an interesting state they find themselves in and the situation is different to ones that teams like The Avengers, or X-Men would find themselves in. No big bad to fight, this has more to do with hearts and minds. I think the team learnt some things too – especially in their methods. It all seems to work out pretty well, and the team seem to be working pretty well together, although there still is the leadership problem!
Then we get the final panel…..
Roll on next issue!

Completing this screwy arc, we get the convergence of all of Marc Spector’s personalities. There are some well done parts – some fight and some run. It all makes a kind of sense and then we get the lead on to the next and final arc in this big story – final? I hope not. I’ve been enjoying this run and its craziness. The art is excellent, giving a sandy feel to the whole story, and the story itself – it may be weird, but there are some genuine moments here!

Classified no more. The return of Richard Rider was something people have been asking for a long time, and it’s good to see his return. Although there is something ‘off’ that we just can’t put our finger on – no can Rich! This combined with Sam doing what he does as Nova, makes this an interesting read. He’s still looking for his Dad, but he has other duties too. In this issue he is dealing with a problem for Ego – the living planet, while also commenting on his facial hair! We also get to see some little-known problems of being a superhero – no pants!

I’m glad we didin’t have to wait long for the return of Doctor Aphra! It was possibly the worst kept secret, but hey! who cares!. This is an excellent book, you don’t have to have read the Darth Vader ongoing to get this character, she’s a space Indiana Jones, with a Wookie Bounty Hunter and two murder-bots! Nuff said! This was a good introduction (or re-introduction) to the character, and we get what she’s about and what she does – until things go wrong. It looks like we have the reason too! We also get a little of Aphra when she was younger (no different) and it seems to match in with the whole story we’re going to be getting here!

It’s great to see Thor Odinson with Beta Ray Bill in this adventure and we discover the nature and the name of the main villain in the piece. Although it seems that he may not be the only one, as revealed at the end of the issue. It’s an interesting read, as Thor glances into the realm of the Ultimate Marvel Universe and the Thor who was there. We’ve still got 3 issues to go, so I wasn’t expecting much – a good read though!
