Day Of The Dead #6 & Van Helsing Vs The Mummy Of Amun-Ra #6

My thoughts on two of this weeks digital comics from Zenescope Entertainment

Day Of The Dead #6

Written by Dawn Marquez
Art by Marcelo Salaza
Colored by Marco Lesko

FINAL ISSUE- The action packed conclusion to the Day of the Dead series…As the Order of Tarot looks to rise to power Mystere will either become the Grimm Universes newest and most powerful hero, or her take her place in the evil Order of Tarot as the Queen of Pentacles.

The finale of this mini series links us back into the larger stories happening across the Grimm Fairy Tales stories. The battle against the Order Of Tarot is pretty fast moving and Mystere seems to get the better of her powers and what is expected of her. There is some interesting hints towards the larger story and this moves us nicely to what we have read in the Robyn Hood one shot last week.
there are some good moments here and the big battle set pieces are well done. The Order are still a bit of a mystery, but we now know they have some links to Oz….

Van Helsing Vs The Mummy Of Amun-Ra

Written by Pat Shand
Art by Marc Rosete
Colored by Walter Pereyra

FINAL ISSUE! Liesel Van Helsing enters into her grudge match the the Mummy of Amun-Ra, but she is unprepared when an entire army of undead royalty is unleashed on her. As she fights her away through these zombified pharaohs of ages past, the wicked power of the God Queen mummy waits on the other side. After surviving Dracula, Frankenstein, and the apocalypse itself… will it be the Mummy that finally sends the legendary vampire hunter to her death?

Concluding this arc, Van Helsing works through some more of the issues she has after the death of Hades. There is a nice linkback to Hades’ death and the use of him against Van Helsing worked really well. We also get an origin (of sorts) of The Mummy, and why she is doing what she is doing. She has a list and she’s checking it twice!
there’s a good amount of action here, both in larger big panels and smaller close up fights. It all works out well, with some hints towards the future. An enjoyable mini-series, and next we’re onto another monster in the next one!
