Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe & 30 Days Of Night

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #17 & 30 Days Of Night #1

Some thoughts on two of this weeks digital comics from IDW – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe & and a new #1 of 30 Days Of Night

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #17

‘From the Heart, for the Heard’ Part 2 of 2. Zog and Zom discover the secret history of the Triceraton race’s origin, with deadly ramifications for planet Earth!

Written by Chris Mowry
Art by Giannis Milonogiannis

The first part of this issue gives us a conclusion to the secret history of the Triceratons under the rule of Krang. It details their rebellion and their words against their oppressors. One thing it also does is give a potential ‘out’ for earth as they now seem to be battling the Triceratons! The set up and ending of this story was really well done and heart felt for these military beasts!

The backup gives us a fun little story of some of the younger Triceratons – and they may have done something wrong! A good humoured read!

30 Days of Night #1

As the sun sets over an isolated Alaskan township-not to rise again for a month-a new evil emerges from the shadows to terrorize the town? But after a series of strange events and horrific killings, the question becomes, what lurks in the shadows? 30 Days of Night is reborn in an all-new reimagining of the series designed to titillate the mind and horrify the senses! As Fargo was reinvented for television, see the IDW classic reimagined for the modern era-keeping the frights while keeping you guessing! 15 years ago, IDW launched the original terrifying saga? now in 2017, 30 Days is reborn in a horrifically different re-telling!

Reinventing a classic is a bold move, and this issue is all about the set up! The sun is setting and the town is getting ready for the night to come for 30 days….

I like the way this has been set up, and the town is full of nerves as the darkness comes. We get a good look at some of the characters, including the police force as they strive to keep the peace. There are strange things happening though – mysteries and strange people as night comes. I’m looking forward to this!
