30 Days Of Night #4, Spider King #2 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20

Some thoughts on this weeks digital comics from IDW Publishing – 30 Days Of Night #4, Spider King #2 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20

30 Days Of Night#4

When the town of Barrow, Alaska goes dark for the winter, normally it experiences a mass exodus of residents looking to ride out the long night in warmer, brighter climes. But this year, the darkness is bringing with it visitors… the kind that have razor-sharp teeth and an unholy thirst for human blood. The feeding has begun.

Piotr Kowalski – Artist
Ben Templesmith – Cover Artist, Variant Cover Artist

The attack on the town really kicks into high gear here. no one is safe as the vampires descend on the town. I think that is a very apt description too – descend – it really gives the feel of the vampires approaching the town. I like the way it was set up, and those who are currently surviving have the right reactions!

The attacks are violent and bloody (obviously) and the art gives a pure animal feel!

The twist at the end is very interesting too! Looking forward to #5

Spider King #2

After discovering the burning wreckage of a crashed alien ship, Hrolf and his clan do what they do best: loot and pillage! Believing it to be a gift from the gods, they lay claim to a huge arsenal of alien weaponry and prepare for war! * Vikings vs. Aliens! * Reprinting the critically acclaimed, award-winning Kickstarter graphic novel! * Perfect for fans of Vikings, Conan the Barbarian, or Hellboy!

Josh Vann – Writer
Simone D’Armini – Artist, Cover Artist
Jakub Rebelka – Variant Cover Artist

After last issues crash landing, we discover more about the aliens and their weapons. There is a nice mix of the alien tech and the aliens themselves with the vikings and their ways!

The mix of the aliens is interesting, the ‘baby’ type seem a lot more friendly with the traditional look of aliens. Their reactions to the tech, the vikings and what they do is very good. We don’t understand what they are saying, but we get the gist!
The other alien – the Spider King – is another type. More a parasite than being, and the promises it makes make sense and build on the character arcs.

The art and colouring continue to be excellent, with some well done scenes!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20

‘Service Animals,’ Part 2 of 2. Raphael and Alopex are trapped in Null Industries and face brand-new enemies that force them to question their future!

Ian Flynn – Writer
Dave Wachter – Artist
Freddie Williams II – Cover Artist

Service Animals concludes the story and adds to the story of Null. They have their own plans and it looks like they are still on track! It’s interesting though as there is a possibility of a new ally to the TMNT, but that is still up in the air! I enjoyed the fight scenes and the generalisation of the Turtles – Raph’s reaction is perfect!

Through Red Eyes features Raph as well. I like his interactions with his brothers, and this one mainly has Mikey, but the end is well done – it always happens when you want to sleep!
