Fund Me Friday: Cognition Vol. #1

Live now on Kickstarter – Cognition Volume 1! This is an excellent series for you to get onto now, with a good amount of rewards! Check out the details below.

Cognition follows the exploits of a steam-powered automaton inhabited by a human spirit and a demonically possessed mouse. They battle spirits, monsters and folkloric nasties for the British Occult Secret Service during the ‘Golden Age’ of the Victorian era.

Cognition #0 is available as a free .pdf download for new readers to get a taste of the complete book. It comprises of 3 shorts plus character sheets. – bit.ly/cognition-iss0

The latest Kickstarter campaign is to fund a trade paperback edition that collects the first five issue story arc. It’s a complete narrative, self-contained, with seeds planted for continuation.

There are reward tiers that I hope will interest pervious backers of the single issues without HAVING to ‘double dip’ for the trade, while also being attactive to new readers that prefer trades over floppies. This includes a special collector’s box that can store the single issues or the trade.

The themes of the book are duality and choice.

The protagonists are spiritually linked and must co-exist. They wage a silent war for dominance, with the prize being control of the robot body and access to demonic powers. Good vs evil, spirituality vs technology; this story explores the idea that nothing is straightforward. Thoughts, intentions and motivations only get defined by choice.

Oh… and sometimes the robot hits monsters, while the mouse uses magic.

Sam Bentley was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England in 1993, where he still lives
and works. He uses both traditional and modern art mediums, and often combines
them in his work.
He graduated from the University of Derby in 2015, with a first class honours
degree in commercial photography. This helps inform his use of research,
composition, lighting and colour.
Artists and creators such as Francis Manapul, Alex Ross, Jae Lee, Andrea
Sorrentino and Richard Isanove inspire him.
In 2014, Sam was selected as one of 13 finalists in high profile comic creator
Todd Macfarlane’s ‘Lucky 13’ fan art contest. This work was subsequently
included in the 250th issue of the Spawn Comic book.
