Review – Star Wars Adventures: Return To Vader’s Castle #2

IDW Publishing continue to look at the horror side of Star Wars on this build up to Halloween! Here are my thoughts on #2 of Return To Vader’s Castle

Return to Vader’s Castle for a spooky spin on your favorite villains from a galaxy far, far away…
This exciting weekly series explores the hidden corners of the Star Wars Galaxy and features a wretched hive of scum and villainy including Darth Maul, Grand Moff Tarkin, Asajj Ventress, Jabba the Hutt—all under the shadow of Darth Vader!
Fans will be excited to discover these creepy stories by fan-favorite writer Cavan Scott, with art by the greatest talent from across the galaxy, including Nicoletta Baldari, Nick Brokenshire, Francesco Francavilla, Kelley Jones, Megan Levens, and Charles Paul Wilson III!

How could I not have clicked that IDW was releasing this in the build up to Halloween!
We get a little backstory here – why the rebel finds himself in the clutches of one of Darth Vader’s minions, I’m sure we’ll get more in later issues.
This story is told from a more rebel point of view. There is Tarkin and a look into his past. I like the hints towards Tarkin’s experiments that he oversaw. Tarkin in the EU (and the new canon) is shown to be of that ilk. The monster this week is well done – things aren’t as cut and dry as you would normally think, and this issue was more of a Frankenstein issue.
The ending was well done, with a nice twist for the rebel, next issue should be fun!
