Review – Ghostbusters: Year One #1

A new Ghostbusters series from IDW Publishing this week – year one features the early days of Ghost hunting!

In anticipation of the new Ghostbusters feature film coming to theaters Summer 2020, we look back at the Boys in Grey’s first year on the job, showcasing never before seen adventures! After defeating Gozer and becoming heroes in the city, county, and state of New York, a publisher has decided to cash in with a biography of the Boys in Grey and sends a writer to interview them all for background. He starts with WINSTON ZEDDEMORE, the first ‘buster hired into the supernatural start-up. Winston relates the story of his very first bust, so we can finally know what kind of… ahem, stuff he’s seen that’ll will turn you white!

Set after the first Ghostbusters movie we set the tone. I read the words from Louis, Dana and the hotel manager in the voices from the movie!
This issue concentrates on Winston, and it’s the perfect start to the series. Winston gives us the ‘normal’ perspective of the job – a little on his background and how he got into busting ghosts!

His point of view of the others is excellent, with a look at his training (very little) and his first bust. I like his comments on the rest of the team and how he reacts to it all.

It looks like this is going to feature not just the Ghostbusters, but the peripheral characters too – I really enjoyed this read!

I like the art style too – cartoony, but also in line with some of the characters looks and mannerisms!
