Reviews – Judge Dredd: False Witness & Ghostbusters: Year One

A new Judge Dredd story arc begins and the continued adventures of the Ghostbusters early days from IDW Publishing.

Judge Dredd: False Witness #1

Justice Academy drop-out Mathias Lincoln has built a comfortable life working as a courier for Mega-City One’s most elite citizens. But after he uncovers a horrific conspiracy stretching from the Cursed Earth to the city’s seats of power, Mathias also finds himself pursued by legendary lawman Judge Dredd!

This issue really sets things up. Not only is the status quo set up for those who may be a little unsure about Dredd, but it also gives us some more up to date facts. Like the robot Judges – a nice touch and useful at crowd control.
It sets up the characters really well, and by the end, we get what’s really at stake here – it’s pretty grim looking and I expect that Dredd is going to be more involved.
An excellent start to a new story.

Ghostbusters: Year One #3

It’s PETER VENKMAN’S turn to be interviewed for the Ghostbusters biography, and he proves to be an elusive subject… until he gets to talking about the national news made by the pretty pesky poltergeist that was haunting a fashionable New York dance club! Disco may have died, but that doesn’t mean it won’t come back! Ghostbusters: Year One continues here!

CREATORS:
Erik Burnham (Author) Dan Schoening (Artist, Cover Artist) Luis Antonio Delgado (Colorist)

Peter Venkman is the latest interviewee in this series, and this gets more into the mind of the Ghostbuster. I like the way you learn about what to expect from those who know him, and he still makes his way through the interview pretty smoothly. There are a couple of things that cluster him, but he deflects well.
Peter then goes on to recount a fun adventure for the Ghostbusters in a nightclub. It’s a diversion of course, but it’s still a fun read.

Egon next!
