BRANDED! is a six-page Future Schlock comic strip written by Pat Mills, drawn by Cliff Cumber. Stay warped!
As you’ve probably guessed – I really enjoy these stories. It combines excellent sci-fi concepts and twists.
Branded is an example of the schlock ‘n aargh I hope we’ll see more of in the main comic.
In this free sample we get to meet the gatekeeper of these stories – a sufficiently alien example. I like the gatekeeper for these type of stories and it gives us some connection between all the stories to come.
We get to see an alternate earth and the ‘bad guys’ have won. in this case the bad guys seem to be the corporate sponsors – I like the way that they are chasing ratings and the gradual mental decay of the human is well done – the creepy AI too.
The twist at the end is well done, and throws back to the earlier in the story – a nicely bit of placement.
This is an excellent primer to it all, and I’m looking forward to reading the main comic at the end of the month.
