Review – Transformers ‘84: Secrets and Lies #3

Issue #3 of this classic Transformers series, Transformers ’84 from IDW Publishing.

With Megatron, Shockwave, and the Decepticon brass gone, the power vacuum on Cybertron leads many Decepticon commanders to stake their claims on the world. And with the Decepticons divided, which Autobots will step up to take command? Meanwhile, on Earth, Grimlock wanders into the strangest battle yet!

Simon Furman (Author) Guido Guidi (Artist, Cover Artist) John-Paul Bove (Colorist)

This background to the Autobots trip to Earth is already twisting and turning, but it all fits in nicely. We get a hug amount of battles, with war on Cybertron, Decepticons on Earth and Grimlock.
Grimlock is high on Energon and doesn’t know what’s what – but he was never too smart anyway. I like how he gradually comes out of it to be faced by something else.

The war on Cybertron is messy and what you would have thought it would be – I like the parts with Ultra Magnus and how he reacts – it’s similar to the leader we see in The Movie.

The Decepticons starting to bicker is well done – it shows how strong Megatron must be to keep them all in line.

An excellent issue which is non-stop. Some great commentary by Counter Punch too.
