Oversized in both format and page count, this is a perennial TMNT tale that can’t be missed!
First things first – there is a whole host of excellent covers available for this new series.
This is a dark and gritty story. Based in the future where the grandson of Shredder rules the city.
A mutant turtle, the last one, makes his attack on the citadel and this is his story.
On the face of it, this is a clean story, the Turtle (no spoilers as to who) is attacking the Foot Clan fortress and there are many things in his way. Foot cyborgs, upgraded mousers and more. This part of it is all action and well laid out. There is a lot of good scenes going through the city.
In the background though is the running commentary. Not only do we have the Turtles thoughts on the matters at hand, and what went before, but we also get his conversations and advice from the ghosts of the past. It’s well done and pretty sad too.
The art is perfect for this story – dark colouring and well laid out panels. The city opens and closes in perfect unison to the action going on.
There are some spoilers at the end – a return of an old face and the identity of the Turtle in question – see if you guess right as you read through!
