Here’s a new app to try for a new comics reading experience!
Imagine a comic book without borders or pages.
Scrollon offers original illustrated content presented as a seemingly unending image. Stories are not merely read, they are traveled. The image is advanced by scrolling with your finger, or by tapping the screen.
Unlike comics that are repurposed from other mediums, each Scrollon story is crafted for digital viewing. This means artwork never needs to be cropped to make text readable, layouts are not reformatted, and the creators’ vision is never compromised. Scrollon provides a uniquely intuitive way to experience visual storytelling on the iPad.
This app allows you to sample Scrollon for free. It is easy to navigate, has search functions, automatic bookmarking, and features an expanding library of fantasy, science fiction, superhero, steampunk and other genres. Previews are provided for each story installment available through the In-App Store. Furthermore, your collection is backed up on your Scrollon.Com account, so it can be retrieved if you lose or replace your device.
Scrollon® is a patent pending narrative art form. New content is added each month. Be part of this revolution in digital comics!
It’s good to see something new coming from comics to make use of tablets like this – with more use of infinite canvas, titles from the likes of Madefire and sound added to the likes of Clown Commandos, we’re getting more variety for our apps!
You can get Scrollon on iTunes and there are some free titles to download too!
Launched today on iTunes and available free, sequential was covered by me as the new indie comics iPad app with something different to what you’re used to!
Here some more information:
“The time is right to evangelise graphic novels and sequential art anew. Quality graphic novels are being nominated for – and winning – awards such as the Costa prize; digital is making material available to most, and British publishers are leading a renaissance in quality material. Sequential will be making quality graphic novels easily available to all in a specially-engineered deluxe format, acclaimed as the ‘gold standard’, with new features that expand the way in which graphic stories can be told. We expect this to help to expand the market for graphic novels for adults in a way that hasn’t been seen before.”
Sequential – the indie comics app for the iPad is out now!
I covered it here!
It’s out! Sequential the indie graphic novel app for iPad now in the UK & Ireland. Moore, Campbell, Lloyd et al
and do download the app yourself and retweet and share. Every little bit helps!
FYI, here’s the link to Paul Gravett’s final interview with yours truly:
Here’s the French translated by Google:
Tintin was one of my first comic loves, so on the plus side I’m glad to see it available digitally. On the downside French was not my strongest language, so I won’t be getting these yet until the translation is available!
All the Tintin albums are available in a published by Moulinsart iPad application.
‘s 24 comics of Hergé are read digitally. Of “Tintin in the Land of the Soviets” to “Tintin and Alph-Art” through “The Crab with the Golden Claws”, “The Secret of the Unicorn” or the mythical “We walked on Moon “ebooks in the collection are assembled in a single App.
Downloading the application is free, the player pays when buying a BD. Then the fan buys more bonuses are offered: the wallpaper and collectors items etc..
On the official website of Tintin we also learn that the application will evolve over time: “Ultimately, the goal is to provide the reader with digital albums, features that allow it to navigate through the albums and access so easy, fun and attractive to the source of the work and enjoy a 360-degree experience that builds on rich media. Future development will incorporate languages and audio. There should be several audio versions as is dramatized adaptation is a literal reading of the adventures of Tintin. ”
Mille Sabords we can finally get on the unicorn with the overall titles in a device that weighs only a few grams!

If you’re an avid reader of the many comic strips on Universal Uclick’s GoComics website, you’ll be pleased to know the company’s recently released its first app for mobile devices. Optimized for tablets and smartphones running Windows Phone, Android and iOS, the company states that the free app serves as the “official home” on mobile for its syndicated comics. Notably, this includes the likes of the full Calvin & Hobbes archives, along with Universal Uclick citing it as the exclusive portal to Dilbert strips on mobile. We won’t keep you any longer now that you know, so head over to the appropriate source link if you’d like to download it for yourself.
Tonight, I was lucky enough to attend a special preview event for Panel Nine’s new app. Hosted at St Martin’s College as part of the Comica event, we got a look at the new storefront app from Panel Nine for graphic novels.
Russel Willis, the brains behind Panel Nine introduced the app with some information on what we can expect from the app.
Panel Nine have already released some excellent stand alone graphic novel apps – Kickback, Dapper John, Hunt Emerson and more. They are also behind the Infinity and Phoenix newsstand apps for the iPad.
The storefront app – Sequential – bring together all that you get from the standalone app and add some.
The app includes all the excellent bells and whistles that you would expect from Panel Nine – a contents page, creators commentary, interviews and more. But then from that within the storefront you also get some extras – reviews and recommendations from people like Neil Gaiman, best sellers and more.
As for what to expect – or not to expect from content – don’t expect any Superhero comics from Panel Nine. This isn’t what this app is all about, Marvel & DC have those, this is for more literary titles – the closest you can expect is From Hell by Alan Moore.
There’s also some brilliant partnerships Panel Nine have lined up for the app – publishers who make graphic novels for the more literary world. So expect similar titles to Dapper John, Verity Fair and more on the app.
The app also experiments with the infinite canvas feel with a special graphic novel with the app. Some also are in landscape mode, which is becoming more prevalent in iPad comics.
It’s not all about the iPad – Panel Nine are also planning an Android app for November sometime.
On another note, there are also thoughts on a children’s Sequential app down the line!
The app will be available next week, so keep an eye on the 3 Million Years Facebook Page and my Twitter account for the link.
Many thanks to Russell and Panel Nine for the invite and the free drink.
Now I’m going to read Dante from Hunt Emerson!
This just in from Comixology:
We released the 3.1 version of our app this week, with great improvements and one very serious bug that caused real heartache for some users. We are very sorry to have not caught this bug internally before release!
We have since reverted the app (to version number, 3.0.7), which brings us to the previous feature set so we can prevent more people running into issues while we correct the new version of app.
So, here’s what you need to do:
If you’re on version 3.0.7 or 3.1 and aren’t having problems, don’t do anything at all. Wait for a post 3.1 update before upgrading.
If you’re on 3.1 and having purchasing errors, update to the newest version available. You will need to re-download your local library. If you continue to have problems restoring purchases, use the in-app Feedback so our team can help.
We love our comiXology users and aim to never get in the way of your finding and reading great graphic novels and comics. We sincerely apologize if you’ve been one of our affected users.
Temple Run is pretty addictive - good to see a comic based on it by Ape Entertainment!
Ape Entertainment, in partnership with Imangi Studios and Dimension Brand Group (DBG), announced today that the Temple Run Comic App is now available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Based on the self-titled smash-hit game, the Temple Run Comic App is $.99, which includes the first issue and, for a limited time, the second issue at no additional cost. Both action-packed issues are chocked full of adventure, suspense, and ancient mystery.
What are the temples? What are the secrets of the golden idols? What exactly are the demon monkey creatures? All these secrets and more are revealed as the Temple Run world comes to life. Fans begin the adventure with Guy Dangerous as he and a band of adventurers go in search of a lost Incan city and the treasure it holds. But when Guy comes face to face with a mysterious golden idol, they may get more than they bargained for.
Issue No. 2 begins after Guy Dangerous and a group of explorers discovers a lost Incan city and, hidden deep inside, a mysterious golden idol while searching for a missing archeologist. The moment Guy touches the idol, they are transported to an ancient temple in a mysterious land … and they’re not alone. Now Guy and his fellow adventurers must race to escape the deadly traps and hordes of ravenous demon monkeys they encounter at every turn. Can Guy and his friends survive long enough to get home? Or better yet, will they survive at all?
A full-color comic book series is available in print as well at local comic shops.
“We had an exciting opportunity to expand the Temple Run universe with the new comic app, and couldn’t wait to share it with our fans,” said Keith Shepherd, co-found of Imangi Studios. “We are looking forward to adding even more depth to the story with Guy Dangerous and his many adventures to come.”
Created by Imangi Studios, Temple Run® is the most exhilarating running game on the App Store. Players test their reflexes as they race down ancient temple walls and along sheer cliffs. They swipe to turn, jump and slide to avoid obstacles, collect coins to buy power ups, and run as far as they can through an ever more challenging terrain.
