Now Dorothy Goes Day-And-Date Digital | Bleeding Cool

Marvel Comics have stated that they aim to have their entire super hero line as day-and-date delivery by March 2012. Well, earlier today, as well as Ultimate Comics Ultimates #4, they have put up Wolverine #19, X-Men Legacy #259, FF #12, Uncanny X-Men #2 and… Dorothy And The Wizard Of Oz #3.

And far earlier in the day than DC Comics…

From December 14th Dark Horse Goes Day & Date

Hopefully this will coincide with a Android reader too!

Dark Horse’s digital evolution continues after seeing huge success with digital sales. Dark Horse Comics will now make their comics available digitally the same day they are on sale in comic shops.

Beginning December 14, all titles from Dark Horse Comics will be on sale the same day in both print and digital format, allowing new-technology readers to access their favorite comics at the same time as their print-oriented counterparts.

Dark Horse Digital launched its standalone comic-reader app earlier this year and received incredible support from the continuously growing digital-comics fan base, a new type of comics fan eager to adapt to new technologies.

Since then, Dark Horse Digital has grown significantly in numbers and readership with the additions of several key titles to the digital roster, including Star Wars, Buffy, Angel & Faith, and Dollhouse. Dark Horse Digital also provides weekly sales and discounts to its readers, currently offers over eight hundred comics, and continues to increase the digital availability of the Dark Horse back catalog.

XIII Mystery Goes Year-Ahead-Digital Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Wait, what?…..

You could wait till the time next year to buy the print version of the XIII Mystery volume, Steve Rowland, by Guérineau and Nury published by Dargaud.

Or you could pay 5 Euros and rent it to read digitally for ten days, now.

Day-and-date digital is clearly for those weak willed Americans…

Roberson Takes “iZombie” Digital – Comic Book Resources

As of today, Vertigo Comics’ ongoing comic book series “iZombie” begins day-and-date digital release on comiXology, starting with a new story arc and a new jumping on point for readers. Co-created and written by “Cinderella: Fables Are Forever” writer Chris Roberson and “Madman” artist Mike Allred with colors by Laura Allred, “iZombie” follows a zombie girl named Gwen and her friends, Ellie the ghost and Scott, a man who turns into a terrier during the full moon. Together the three solve mysteries in Eugene, Oregon, fulfilling the final wishes of the dead people whose brains Gwen must eat to stay alive.

Nominated for a “Best New Series” Eisner earlier this year, “iZombie” goes digital starting with #19, which takes place in the aftermath of the Eugene zombie outbreak and offers revelations about how Gwen became a zombie in the first place. Roberson spoke with CBR News about his hopes for the digital release and his creator-owned series, as well as explaining how romance and armageddon go hand in hand in his next two story arcs.

Exclusive: All Marvel Digital Comics Will Be Available Same Day as Print

Marvel is taking its entire line of comics “day-and-date” digitally, meaning you’ll be able to download all of the company’s comics on the its mobile app just as soon as they’re available in physical stores. That polishes off one of the few downsides to digital comics: Having to wait for the latest and greatest.

The line-wide rollout will be finished by the end of March, 2012, and unlike DC’s 52-title relaunch, day-and-date will be coming to individual titles on a staggered basis, mostly to coincide with new story arcs. The move covers all of Marvel’s comics except third-party licensed works—like the Stephen King The Stand books—and its sex-and-violence-riddled MAX imprint.

Marvel’s been an early participant in the digital game for years, going back to its preposterous and wonderful multiple-CD-ROM box sets, which eventually led to the MDCU library. And it was actually the first company to take a whole line of comics day-and-date digitally with its Ultimate universe last year. Recently, though, Marvel had fallen behind the curve: DC announced back in May that its recent universe-wide reboot would be released day-and-date with print, and that its Vertigo imprint, along with Image comics, will soon follow suit. Meanwhile, you can find yourself waiting weeks, months even, for some of Marvel’s titles.

Once Marvel’s turnover goes final, it will mean that every “major” comic will be available digitally just as soon as they’re available at local comics shops. That’s a huge paradigm shift, even taking into account the generally non-disasterous—even positive—results day-and-date digital comics have had on brick-and-mortars.

To offset taking away one of the few concrete advantages physical stores had, Marvel is also trying out a program where it includes a code with every physical copy of a comic that can be redeemed for a digital copy through Marvel’s mobile app. The initiative starts with Avenging Spider-Man 1, which hasn’t even been released yet, but Marvel says it’s such a popular idea among fans and retailers alike that they’ve already extended it through several more issues and are planning to add it to even more titles.

Hopefully digital traffic keeps driving people to their local comic shops—and so far, everyone we’ve talked to says that’s mostly been the case. But regardless, the last and probably most important of the major publishers taking the day-and-date dive is very welcome news. [Marvel]

Boom! Studios: ‘Key of Z’ Goes Day and Date (With Preview)

I do think that digital release also gives a good testing ground for titles that publishers can use.

Boom! Studios have released ‘Key of Z’ day and date digitally!

October 19, 2010 – Los Angeles, CA – Fresh off a whirlwind run at NEW YORK COMIC CON, Claudio Sanchez, creator and writer of THE AMORY WARS and KILL AUDIO, is proud to announce that the debut issue of his latest comic book, KEY OF Z, will be available today on the Comics by comiXology platform — iOS, Android and the Web — the same day as the print version of the comic is released. Published by BOOM! Studios, in association with Evil Ink, KEY OF Z #1 will be available in comic shops across the country and digitally, making Sanchez’s comic book accessible to fans around the world.

With art by Aaron Kuder (THE AMORY WARS), writers Claudio Sanchez and Chondra Echert (KILL AUDIO) bring a deadly new vision of New York City in KEY OF Z. The zombie apocalypse has transformed the city into two separate battle-hardened fiefdoms. Nick Ewing is left to survive while seeking revenge on those responsible for the death of his family – the warring gangs residing in The Big Apple’s most illustrious athletic houses. Ewing stumbles upon a sentimental artifact from his past that imbues him with surprising power. Find out what happens when he discovers the KEY OF Z.

KEY OF Z #1 features cover art by Nathan Fox (FLORESCENT BLACK) and a special incentive cover by Tony Moore (THE WALKING DEAD). This past weekend, the NYCC-exclusive cover by Declan Shalvey (28 DAYS LATER, THUNDERBOLTS) debuted as a highly-sought after show exclusive.

Claudio Sanchez is the creator/owner of Evil Ink Comics, as well as the front man of the progressive rock band, Coheed and Cambria, who have a song, “Deranged”, on the Batman: Arkham City soundtrack, which was released this week as part of the Collector’s Edition of the game. Sanchez appeared at New York Comic Con at his Evil Ink Comics booth where his signing lines lasted for hours each day; he also participated as a member of the Batman: Arkham City panel with Kevin Conroy (voice of Batman) and developers of the game, Rocksteady Studios’ Sefton Hill and Nick Arundel.

Sanchez and Echert are also in the middle of a mini-signing tour for Key of Z, dates are listed below.

Review: Atomic Robo: The Ghost of Station X

After last issues cliffhanger, I was really looking forward to seeing where this was all going…

I wasn’t disappointed.

Atomic Robo is one of my favourite comics so this review may be a little gushing, but as a comics fan, this is a gateway…

All ages comics don’t have to be cutsie or fluffy like some, Atmoic Robo has science…ot just any science, but ACTION SCIENCE.

This is a gateway to bigger things for the new reader, with some jokes and comments thrown in for the ‘older’ readers this is the Toy Story of comics.

On to the Ghost Of Station X

Last issue could be criticized for being a being a little wordy and short on action – not by me though. Issue #1 was a fun set up which posed questions and set up the series, job done!

At the end of issue one we were left with a cliffhanger – no spoilers – which is immediately picked up at the beginning here. With a rip roaring pace, we get through the issue with immediate problems being solved and current mysteries being processed….then some new ones added, just when you think it’s all over!

There’s some brilliant story telling here from Red 5′s marquee character and that’s what you expect. What I like about these mini series is there’s always something new, something evolving in the stories, but a new reader can pick one up and read it without worrying about the back story.

There are some brilliant art scenes in here – from big ranging pages (above) to the facial expressions of the characters – Atomic Robo included.

I recommend this series, as always with Atomic Robo, and leave you with this short description to encourage you….

From the lead writers of Mass Effect 3 comes Invasion, an essential new story from the Mass Effect 3universe!

Also out this week is Dark Horse Presents #4! This hallmark anthology continues with another spectacular eighty-page issue, including new material by Steve Niles, Evan Dorkin, and Jill Thompson! At only $3.99, this is a great deal for any comics fan.
