Thoughts: Ghostbusters, 2000AD, X-Men: Legacy, Saga, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Five Weapons & Serenity!

An interesting mix of digital comics out this week, and here are my thoughts!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #30

The Turtles struggle to recuperate in Northampton. Each Turtle deals with the new status quo in his own way, and each feels lost. But can they find their way to being a family again as the past haunts them?

I really like this cover, and this issue. The cover says it all – with the feelings of the ‘family’ laid bare there is a lot of soul searching in this issue. All beautifully framed by Michelangelo’s writings.

Ghostbusters (2013-) #12

The end of the year is a hectic time for most businesses, and the Ghostbusters are no exception. Beset from all sides by a surge in spectral activity over this particularly busy season, they’re looking forward to a little bit of a break once the new year hits. But recent supernatural symptoms shown by the City that Doesn’t Sleep are coming to a head, and the Bogeyman has arrived to take the city’s future!

This long running story arc takes another step in the right direction, and we get a change of pace as the FBI are reported to. The set up of this arc works well with the individual stories work well, while feeding into the whole. The team behind this continue to get the feel right of the Ghostbusters – even with this larger cast!

Five Weapons #6
“BACK TO CLASS,” Part One

Enrique returns to the School of Five Weapons, a place where kids learn the art of assassination. This time everyone knows his true identity as a low-class servant. Everyone knows he can’t use a weapon. Everyone accepts Enrique’s status, except for one student…Tyler, who knows every trick up Enrique’s sleeve. This time, school is for revenge!

A NEW STORY ARC BEGINS HERE! GREAT JUMPING ON POINT!

I’m glad to this being commissioned as an ongoing series, as I really enjoyed the first arc. We get a look at the new ethos of the school and Enrique has a new mission, but there are many problems for him on the way. Funny, yet serious in it’s own way, jump on here!

Saga #18

Our heroes’ stay on Quietus reaches its inevitable conclusion.

I would say that this is the ending to ‘part 1’ of Saga, and it finishes off well. There are some excellent character moments, and are worked really realistically in a world of aliens, ghosts and robots. A testament to the story!

X-Men: Legacy Vol. 2 #23

What price will Legion pay to stop the demonic shade of the deceased Professor Xavier from razing the Earth? And prophesied to stop Legion and imbued with the power she needs to do so, will Young X-Man Blindfold take matters into her own hands and extinguish her first love?

This has been a massive, clever adventure, with one of the unknowns in the Marvel Universe, as we come towards the end, we see the what Legion has become, and what will happen to him. This is quite a deep issue, so pay attention!

JAIL BREAK!

2000AD – Prog 1866

Dredd is now a prisoner of the prisoners of Titan, and we get a look at the conditions of the inmates there, and the reasons for the revolt. The revenge is a serious one and Dredd looks to be in trouble. I’m enjoying this arc, where Dredd is out of his comfort zone!
Ulysses Sweet is in trouble, and he doesn’t know it – as the plan to destroy the Amethyst Cluster goes on he’s out of it on bliss! This was a good step away from Sweet, as you can’t have too much of a good thing!
The ABC Warriors return to Mars brings back old memories and refers back to some of the problems we’ve already seen!
Grey Area continues to look at the problems of alien immigration and this is looking bigger with holy people trying to bring the word of god to aliens!
The revolt against the norms takes a step in the right direction for Johnny Alpha with the battle against the Norm Brotherhood in full swing!

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1 image

Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1

Malcolm Reynolds’s crew shook the ‘verse to its core when they laid bare the crimes against humanity undertaken by their sinister government—the Alliance. Always outlaws, Mal, a very pregnant Zoe, new pilot River Tam, and the other surviving crew members are in greater danger than ever. Meanwhile, everyone is asking the same question . . .Where’s Serenity?

This is one I’ve been looking forward to for a while and it doesn’t disappoint  Leading straight off the series and the film, we get a look at how the crew are coping with the fallout of it all.

And the Alliance!
