Bluewater have released a preview of Tribute: Jerry Garcia!

Bluewater Productions is proud to announce the release of a comic book biography on the life of the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia as part of their popular Tribute series. Written by Michael L. Frizell with interior art by Andre St-Amour., Tribute features cover by famed rock artist David Frizell,  “Tribute: Jerry Garcia” is available in both print and digital.

A brilliant artist taken from us too soon, counterculture and non-conformist icon Jerome John “Jerry” Garcia was a musician best known for his distinctive guitar playing and his thirty-three year history with the Grateful Dead. Bluewater explores the life of the man who would hate the idea that he’d somehow become the “face” for a movement that changed the social climate of the United States. “Does anyone epitomize the age of freedom – or the age of excess – better than Garcia?” said writer Michael Frizell. “His story is every writer’s dream. Drugs. Rock culture. Conflict. Social turmoil. Unparalleled talent. Humble and rebellious beginnings. Mix them together and you create the portrait of Jerry Garcia.”

Darren Davis, publisher, thought the timing was right for a comic book featuring the legendary guitarist. “We’re living in interesting times not unlike those that gave rise to the counter culture movement in the 1960’s. Unrest, economic uncertainty, and calls for social and political change are often the catalysts that give artists their voices. Garcia’s work resonates.”

Artist Andre St-Amour agrees. “Jerry Garcia, his life and music career, can almost be described as a sort of history of the Baby-Boomer generation.  From the early post-war years to the adoption of rebellious Rock’n’Roll mind-set, to the Make Love not War movement of the 60s, to the drugs and psychedelia of the early ’70s, to the excesses of the 80s, and beyond.  Jerry Garcia was there through it all,” said St-Amour.

However, the book presented its own set of challenges. “Researching him was difficult as I realized early on it was going to be tough to sort fact from fiction regarding his influences and his career,” continued writer Frizell. “I was familiar with his music, but not the man. I wanted the comic to be simple, honest, and emotional in order to do him justice. Separating the myth from the man was my mission.”

“The Tribute line of comic books tells the stories of people that have made a significant difference in the world while they were with us,” says Bluewater publisher, Darren G. Davis. “It is a way for us to honor these people who have made a difference in the world.”

Two collectible overs are available on this title.
