Review: Satanic Hell #1

Broke and directionless, the three members of the metal band Satanic Hell arrive in Texas for a chance tour set up by a mysterious promoter named Sam. Death Priest, Dante, and Exodus quickly find trouble in the bizarre world of Texas, now an authoritarian Christian state controlled by a council of religious fanatics.

I really wasn’t sure what I was going to get in this new series from Alterna Comics, but I quickly got into it, and couldn’t believe it when I got to the end.

The characters are quickly established and we get a real good idea of the situation the metal band are thrust into!
This is a 7 issue mini-series and there is still a lot happening here. Personally I think it’s a horrible situation!

I really enjoy the serious nature of the story, but there is a large amount of dark humour going on too, with little nods and winks to the reader! I would have thought the art would have been darker than this, but the style fits in nicely with the genre and the tone of the story.

As a first issue this hits a lot of the beats. We get hints at some of the characters, and introduced to many of the others. The setting is perfect, as is the reasoning behind it.

This is worth checking out!
