A selection of reviews of digital comics from the last week!
It’s a free day at Lumberjanes camp, and the Roanoke cabin is…bored out of their skulls. With nothing to fight the girls set themselves to earning all the badges they can that don’t involve monsters or the supernatural, which is surprisingly hard! When Mal and Molly sneak off in search of real adventure (that won’t put them to sleep!), they accidentally stumble into something more than they ever bargained for…
The start of a new arc and the fallout from the last arc begins, with some nice references to it. The girls trying to get ‘normal’ badges is a nice touch and it’s also a nice bit to reference that they have been neglecting them. Mal & Molly’s alone time doesn’t go so well when they spot an old woman in the woods – which leads them to their next adventure!
Prehistoric empires! Dystopian futures! And everywhere in between! The past, present, and future of our universe are about to meet an untimely end, and only the mysterious Ivar Anni-Padda can prevent all three from collapsing in on themselves. Unstuck in time, and pursued by enemies simultaneously across every moment of his time-lost life, can the man called Timewalker save everything that ever was, is, and will be? Get ready for a clock-stopping odyssey into the distant past and far future as the most unlikely Valiant hero of all leaps into his first history-ripping adventure!
Ivar, Timewalker #1
Jumping straight out of Archer & Armstrong we get a nice look at the life of a timewalker. Some of our questions are answered in this story, and some are skillfully ignored – we don’t need to know, just enjoy the story. At first it seems that Ivar’s companion is just that – a companion, but at the end we get the twist we deserve. From now on it’s going to be a matter of waiting, that cliffhanger will always be there….
Past, present and future collide, as the Doctor, Clara and their Indian allies struggle to unravel a mystery that has been millennia in the planning! What secrets are hidden by the Scindia family, a dynasty whose powerful roots trace back over a thousand years? What strange genetic modifications fuel the death cult of the Thuggee? And how does a humble Mumbai pickpocket figure into these world-changing events? As each Thuggee sacrifice comes closer to waking the ancient Kali from her slumber, can the Doctor uncover the truth before her resurrection spells doom for India, Earth, and the galaxy?! An unmissable epic for the newest incarnation of the Doctor! Cross-time adventure with the new TARDIS crew! Season 8 is a critical and fan smash-hit – don’t miss out on these all-new stories!
Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor #4
This run with the 12th Doctor brings us up to date with the TV series – and this Doctor’s mannerisms work so well. They have absolutely nailed it! More time travel is used here – the past, as well as the future aspects. It’s dark, slightly scary and involves other dimensions!
INTERGALACTIC WAR BRINGS THE LONDON SKIES TO A SHUDDERING HALT! The day after tomorrow – and the Vrezian Confederacy and the J’arrodic Federation have brought their ‘honorable’ air-war to Earth. They’re not here to invade, and they’re being exceptionally considerate about collateral damage, all things considered. But human air travel is at a standstill, our culture is collapsing, the skies are clogged with toxic smog… And UNIT can’t do a thing, as the aliens vaporize the weapons stockpile of any country that dares interfere. The deadlock needs a peaceful and clever solution – let’s hope the Doctor is up to the job! And in the middle of it all… Alice is given a shocking offer she dare not refuse!
We all know the Doctor’s opinion of war, and this is where the war to end all wars come to a head and the Doctor is determined to do something about it! Along with the Doctor’s response to the eternal war, there is also something in the background – referenced in #1 with a mysterious, shadowy (time lord) person approaching Alice…..
