  1. Who are you and what are you working on right now? (2 questions in 1, I know!)

My name is Jeremy Whitley and I am the writer/creator of such fine comics as Princeless, Illegal, The Order of Dagonet, and more. Currently I am working on the 4th and 5th volumes of Princeless, the upcoming Princeless spin-off “Raven: The Pirate Princess”, several upcoming issues of My Little Pony, and a number of other things I can’t talk about.

  1. What drew you to digital comics?

I loved comics as a kid, but then my family moved to a part of Western North Carolina where there were no comic book stores nearby. I totally lost contact with comics for something like 10 years, though I never stopped being into the X-Men.  It’s great that digital comics allow people without ready access to a comic shop to get to new comics from anywhere.

  2. Webcomics or digital comics?

I’ve tried to do Webcomics in the past and while I appreciate what other people can do with it, I’ve never really been able to crack the code. I like the dynamic ability to work with an existing platform that digital comics provides.

  3. What do you think works with digital comics?

I think everything can work, it’s just a question of how to make it work. Digital comics reward ingenuity.  I love that digital comics can give you the ability to build addition al content into every page.

  4. Can digital comics replace print comics?

They certainly can, but I don’t think they should.  Books haven’t disappeared and I don’t think comics will either.  I love getting my comics out there digitally, but I still prefer to buy my comics physically.

  5. How can print comics work with digital comics?

Marvel has done a nice job of including digital comics with their physical comics. There will always be something to be said for owning a physical piece of art, but digital comics are so much more convenient, especially when you travel.  You can take hundred s of comics on every trip with you.

  6. What don’t you like about digital comics?

I still don’t think most digital comics are living up to their potential. I don’t think that a lot of us as creators and the larger presses have really been able to open our minds enough to  understand what digital comics are capable of.  When we start getting comic musicals, then we’ll be ready.

  7. What digital comics/webcomics do you read?

Agents of the Realm, Girls With Slingshots, Sensation Comics, Amelia Cole, Of Stars and Swords, Guns of Shadow Valley, and so many more that are just escaping me right now.

  8. Where do you see digital comics going from here?

I think digital comics have the ability to become a medium all their own. They can fill a strange middle ground between comics and animation and live action.  You can embed bonus content and sound and music and really anything you want to.  I think we’ll see digital comics stop competing so much with physical comics and become their own thing, in the way that HBO or AMC don’t try to compete with CBS any more.

  9. Who do you think we should look out for in digital comics?

Mildred Louis who does the webcomic “Agents of the Realm”.  That comic is beautiful and she’s going to be going places.
