Reviews: Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe

Dirk Gently: The Salmon of Doubt #4 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #6

My thoughts on two digital comics from IDW Publishing

Wow!
OK!
this was a rapid ride and we get pulled in time and in dimensions. You really have to concentrate in this issue to keep up, but you will get there I promise and fans of Dirk Gently will appreciate the ending. I did wonder where this part was all going, but it makes sense in the final panel!
There’s a cross over for you.
On another note – I like the references in this issue – with some of the most famous scientists ever – Hawking and Newton. There is a pun with Stephen being ‘strange’ which I really enjoyed. The action is classic Dirk Gently with some fast moving, fast talking panels!
Excellent!

TMNT Universe takes us out of the main series enough to enjoy some of these stories. The first story is a one-shot of Michaelangelo facing a new mutant in the sewers of New york. It’s well told, with some nice pieces – not only from Michaelangelo, but the mutant (who is quite unique) and the NYPD officer who is helping (or the other way around) If you’re just reading this series then it works – but there is more heart in it considering what is happening in TMNT at the moment!
Next up is a look at the turtles – and ninja’s from a third party point of view. I enjoyed the reading about the history and ideas behind the ninja, and the action and style of this made it very interesting – I hope the theme continues!
