My thoughts on the latest issue of Grimm Fairy Tales from Zenescope
Goldilocks The circus has come to town and the main attraction is the beautiful lion tamer, the animal trainer with the golden hair. Goldilocks returns to the Grimm Universe! When Skye investigates some mysterious happenings at the circus, she finds herself face to face with Goldie and her three vicious bears.
This issue serves as a nice stop-gap between threads of stories as we get introduced to the circus! Obviously there is something creepy going on, you only need to look at the ringmast – and the fact that kids go free and adults are only $1! Never look a gift horse in the mouth. In this case it’s the gift bear, or bears as Goldilocks is using them to collect people for their circus is Myst!
Skye gets dragged into the story though as her book takes the wheel – literally in this case. Once on the scene she does get to the bottom of it all and attempts a rescue of those who are left.
It’s an interesting story here, as there is an ending, but it’s not entirely happy, and it feeds into the greater story. Skye is still having trouble with her book, and I wonder where that is going to lead – as for the rest, it seems that it leads to the Order of the Tarot.
This was a well structured issue, with some gruesome and well laid out scenes. The pacing works well, it perhaps could have been slower, but there is enough to get on with!
