Review: 2000 AD – Prog 2061

Merry Christmas from 2000 AD – Here’s my thoughts on this weeks Christmas prog of 2000 AD

An excellent festive cover from Staz Johnson & Chris Blythe

JUDGE DREDD: ECHOES by Michael Carroll (w) Colin MacNeil (a) Chris Blythe (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

After Dredd’s adventures on the outskirts of East Meg 2, Dredd finds himself and Salada in the wastes of the East Meg. It’s cold and there are things not right. Things continue along that vein as they come under attack, by droids as well as people. There is a big mystery here, and it takes us to the scene of one of Judge Dredd’s biggests judgments!

That final half page panel really makes it!

BRASS SUN: ENGINE SUMMER by Ian Edginton (w) INJ Culbard (a) Ellie De Ville (l)

Part 1 of this new arc of Brass Sun starts with a war. And it’s not a war now, but one from the past. It gives us a good amount of background and something solid from the past that we haven’t had previously!
We only get a little of the ‘present’ and it looks like its going to be something interesting, but then we get a creepy twist!
I love the art style of Brass sun and the worlds are excellent!

SAVAGE: THE THOUSAND YEAR STARE by Pat Mills (w) Patrick Goddard (a) Ellie De Ville (l)

Savage returns and this issue is a lot about trust! Trust of Savage, his secret police partner, and the pirates! There is a fair amount of action going on too, with an attack from the Volgons and the Straw dogs. This has the making of another excellent Savage thriller!

BAD COMPANY: TERRORISTS by Peter Milligan (w) Rufus Dayglo (a) Dom Regan (c) Simon Bowland (l)

The return of Bad Company, and they are as dysfunctional as before. There is some real madness going on here, and now that the squad have been deemed terrorists, everyone is out to get them. The art is excellent, and you don’t know what to trust! I like the twist at the end of this!

THE FALL OF DEADWORLD: AVA by Kek-W (w) Dave Kendall (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)

A nice one-shot addition to the Deadworld story. I wonder if this will link up to the main series? Nevertheless this gives us some background into the fall of Deadworld and some of the other things going on – as well as people’s reactions to it!

ACE TRUCKING CO. by Eddie Robson (w) Nigel Dobbyn (a) Ellie De Ville (l)

I love Ace Trucking Co. and this one is full of the Christmas spirit – eventually! The team visit a Christmas resort and things are not as advertised!
This has the usual Ace humour, while taking aspects from real life too! Great fun!

ABC WARRIORS: FALLOUT by Pat Mills (w) Clint Langley (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)

An all action deep Sci-Fi return of the aBC warriors and this is a darek beginning, with humans killing humans, humans killing kids, robots killing humans and robots killing kids! This looks like it’s going to really build into something epic! The art style really suits the story too!

STARLORD: WATCH THE STARS! by Kenneth Neimand (w) Henry Flint (a) Simon Bowland (l)

Tharg The Mighty introduced the return of Star Lord and it’s a dark twisted 2000 AD tale, with a really good story and well told!
