Review: Grimm Fairy Tales #11

Some thoughts on the latest issue of Grimm Fairy Tales and the beginning of a new arc.

Taking over after the death of her mother Sela, Skye Mathers is the new Guardian of the Nexus. With the help of Shang, her mentor, she is learning the extent of her new powers, and trying to figure out the mystery of her connection to the book of Fairy Tales. Now with her book, she controls a power she doesn’t fully understand, power that pulls her to where she is needed to help others.

This is part one of “Order of Tarot” which has been building across the GFT universe. This issue works well as a good ‘reintroduction’ to Tarot. Skye is investigating what has happened to her friend Jasmine, (sucked into the shadow realm) and how to get her back. She has been told to go to New Orleans and get some information – not get into trouble! These were Shang’s orders, but we know how good Skye is at taking those sorts of orders.
The build up is very good, and Skye does get a bit of action, with Judgement making an attack on Skye again. Skye also gets some help from Shang’s local contact, but before long she’s in trouble.

I enjoyed this issue, it had some really good suspense and a little action to wet the appetite for the arc. The art is excellent, with some really nice crisp colouring.
