Review: Snap Flash Hustle #1

Some thoughts on this new series from Black Mask Studios – from Pat Shand and Emily Pearson, this is SNAP FLASH HUSTLE #1

Haley Mori, a downtrodden alternative-model, happens upon a secret society of elite models in NYC that are using their platforms to sell narcotics. Seeing a possible escape from a lifetime of crushing debt, Haley becomes involved and works her way up the ranks, making new alliances and enemies alike while getting a taste of a power she never knew she craved. In this new stylish crime thriller from writer Pat Shand (Breathless) and artist Emily Pearson (The Wilds), nothing is as it seems.

This is an interesting new series from Black Mask. I really enjoyed it, and the concept is excellent.
There is some excellent buildup, with some nice character work. Pat is excellent at building up these characters and the relationships they have. This issue moved along really well, there is some good set up of the situation, with some nice pieces of the main character and her supporting cast. Haley is an interesting, desperate character, and you can see how this looks good for her at the moment, but not in the long run – this can only end badly. The supporting cast is interesting, and you can see how Hayley’s decision is going to already effect them! This issue gives us an interesting hook, with some nice storytelling – I’m looking forward to see how this escalates!
The art is excellent, with the colouring with some nice pastel tones (see below) this washes its way through the issue, with some very nice scenes!
