Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DuckTales & Go-Bots

Some thoughts on three of this weeks comics from IDW Publishing – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #90, Ducktales #17 & Go-Bots #3

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #90

The Turtles and their allies take stock in the wake of a tragedy. Little do they know the greatest conflict is about to come! Repercussions strain relationships and a looming threat makes itself known!

Tom Waltz – Writer
Michael Dialynas – Artist, Cover Artist
Nelson Daniel – Variant Cover Artist
Kevin Eastman – Variant Cover Artist

This issue had a lot going on – moving the story forward in a lot of places. First we have Slash’s memorial, which was moving and special from Michaelangelo. Then Hob turned up. He’s got his own agenda and it looks like he’s going the messy way in his war against Bishop. The ‘either with us or against us’ part was just like Hob. Meanwhile, after the revelation about Bishop, he gets a surprise of his own – an intruder, who looks to cause damage, looks to join up with Bishop. At first I thought it was someone else, and it’s an interesting surprise! The brothers have their own searching to do – and it looks like they’ve got some loose ends before they take a break. Splinter gets some old memories, and I like the flashback for him – just before the final page reveal! A good issue, which moves things along on many fronts!

DuckTales #17

Uncle Scrooge finds himself “Marooned in Mystery Mansion” in this special two-part story! Can Mrs. Beakley save the day before things get out of hand?!

Joey Cavalieri – Writer
Ciro Cangialosi – Artist
Danilo Loizedda – Artist
Cristina Stella – Artist
Luca Usai – Artist

‘Marooned In Mystery Mansion’ is this week’s adventure. Scrooge can’t remember a week, and it’s bugging him. This kicks off the adventure and it seems we find out a lot more about Beakly too!
What follows is a fun adventure of the due, working to make up for a past failure. Scrooge, doesn’t often fail – but we get to see it here! It was a good fund read, with a nice ending and a special twist by Scrooge!

Go-Bots #3

Welcome to Gobotron. Leader-1 and the Go-Bots have built a planet of their own. Astronauts Lee Spencer, Charlotte Scott and Venyamin Alexander pay Gobotron a visit and find themselves victims of the strange and deadly politics of a Gobotocracy. If they can escape Zod the Go-Bot monster, they’ll have to face the judgment of the Rock Lords. Is there a place for people in a post-human society? From the creative mind that brought you IDW’s Transformers vs. G.I. Joe! Visionary creator, Tom Scioli, unleashes his imagination on the bizarre, absurd, and wonderful world of Go-Bots!

Tom Scioli – Writer, Artist, Cover Artist
Ulises Farinas – Variant Cover Artist
Dash Shaw – Variant Cover Artist

An interesting jump for the Go-Bots. They have their own planet and Leader-1 seems to have gone a little strange. There is a nice twist in this one – one you will get near the end, so I won’t spoil it. It’s well done, with the toy magazine feel to it all, stretched over a longer format. Cy-Kill is also around, making problems, and I like the way of his attack!
