Reviews: DuckTales, Go-Bots & Judge Dredd: Toxic

Some thoughts on three of this weeks digital comics from IDW Publishing. Including Ducktales #18, Go-Bots #4 and the final part of Judge Dredd: Toxic

Ducktales #18

It’s a special 20-page story as we present “Money-Grubbing Hooligans from the Deep!” A tsunami is about to hit Duckburg, but a mysterious submarine may be the reason behind this unexpected occurrence. Find out how the occupant of the submarine is connected to Launchpad McQuack and if Uncle Scrooge’s Money Bin will survive the watery onslaught!

‘Money-Grubbing Hooligans From The Deep’ is the name of this story. An it seems that a tsunami is on it’s way to Duckberg. This story has a few twists and turns and most of the family get involved. No zany inventions though! The tsunami is a cover though as a money-grubber is on their way to Scrooge’s Money Bin! I like they way the tension in this story built up. There is a fair amount of comedy, with each character getting some time! Launchpad is excellent in this one, and I love the way he was involved in the ending!
A nice twist and a fun story!

Go-Bots #4

What dark secret lies at the center of Gobotron? You won’t believe the answer! From the creative mind that brought you IDW’s Transformers vs. G.I. Joe! Visionary creator Tom Scioli unleashes his imagination on the bizarre, absurd, and wonderful world of Go-Bots!

This was a crazy, screwy read. We had battles, memories of the past and more.
We discover what happens to the humans in the time the Go-Bots have terraformed earth. There is the final battle against Zod as well as some new allies and possibly new allies. The ending is pretty sudden, but we’ve got an interesting conclusion coming up too. I still love the art style in this series, with some recognisable faces coming up. Cy-Kill is mad (as is Leader-1 to a degree) and his issues make me smile.

Judge Dredd: Toxic #4

The shocking conclusion to acclaimed writer Paul Jenkins’ first Judge Dredd story! Mega-City One’s last hope for avoiding total destruction lurks deep within the toxic sewer known as the Spillover. But with a horde of anti-alien fanatics closing in fast, Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson will have to risk it all in a conclusion you’ll have to see to believe. Cutting satire and gritty action from writer Paul Jenkins (Hellblazer, The Inhumans) and artist Marco Castiello (Star Wars)! Covers by Jenkins’ Peter Parker: Spider-Man teammate Mark Buckingham (Fables, Marvelman)! Painted variant covers by concept artist John Gallagher (The Flash, Supergirl)!

The final issue of the IDW/Dredd story.
It gives a really satisfying conclusion. The Judges have made their peace with the aliens, and it looks like there is a new normal going forward. Yes, there were those who disagreed with this, and their arguments were heard and the rioters were dealt with in a really good fight scene.
There was some good wrapping up in the final parts of the issue too – not only the pro-human leader (who looks familiar), but also some wrapping up in terms of the law in the spillway.
This was a really good mini-series, which has a good beginning, middle and end for the story!
