Review: 2000 AD – Prog 2172

Some of the latest thoughts about this week’s 2000 AD – Prog 2172

  • UK and DIGITAL: 11 March 2019 £2.99
  • NORTH AMERICA: 11 April 2019 $7.99 (per pack)
  • DIAMOND: JAN201939
  • COVER: JAKE LYNCH

In this issue:
JUDGE DREDD: THE RELIC by Kenneth Niemand (w) Jake Lynch (a) Jim Boswell (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

Qgggl the alien has his work cut out, but it does seem that he has some tricks of his own. I like the build-up to this, and it shows a lot of the powers the alien has. The interaction with Dredd was very well done, and when the heatseeker was coming in I thought it was all over – but no!
There is some excellent art in this prog.

SINISTER DEXTER: THE FRIGHTENERS by Dan Abnett (w) Steve Yeowell (a) John Charles (c) Simon Bowland (l)

With Dexter out of action after the last arc, Sinister does some work on his own. It’s well done as it gives us more information on their investigation, as well as a good story. There is a lot more going on with the AIs than we thought and maybe more of them. Meanwhile, Sinister has some problems!

THE ZAUCER OF ZILK: A ZAUCERFUL OF SECRETS by Peter Hogan (w) Brendan McCarthy (a+c) Len O’Grady (c) Jim Campbell (l)

Time travel can be a mess, and this is recognised here. I wonder what the way out of it will be. Less action in this issue – other than a possible death – and some explaining. We’re close to the end of this arc.

SKIP TRACER: NIMROAD by James Peaty (w) Paul Marshall (a) Dylan Teague (c) Simon Bowland (l)

Some interesting people from the past. They are causing trouble and it looks like they have some powers too. We want some answers as much as Skip, so it will be interesting to see where this goes. This was a well-paced issue, with some great art and colouring.

FERAL & FOE by Dan Abnett (w) Richard Elson (a+c) Joe Elson (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

It looks like we’re coming to the end game in this story. The big bad is on the horizon and a team-up is in place. There is more characters added, but I don’t think they will all last. I like the action and the introduction to the team.
