Virtual Con – Your Online Comic Con Coming In April

While we are all social distancing, there is no chance to get to any comic cons.

Not so! Facebook group The Geek Asylum have an online comic con – Virtual Con

I’ll be there, wandering the aisles and looking to make new friends and read new comics. Check out the details below

On Sunday 26th April, a Facebook fan group is putting together an online comic con called Virtual Con.‬

The Geek Asylum, founded in the north east, started out as a few friends talking about their hobbies in a group; it has now swelled to over 31,500 members across the world and attends comic conventions up and down the country to raise money for the organiser’s choice of charity.‬

‪A lot of events have been postponed in light of the coronavirus pandemic which leaves traders and performers who attend comic cons without a source of income at this moment in time. It also leaves a lot of people in the community who have social and anxiety issues without their regular meet-ups with like-minded friends.‬

‪Virtual Con hopes to bridge this gap by having somewhere people can buy merchandise via mail order, and purchase autographs or video messages from performers as an alternative to going out and buying something at a time we’re all being asked to stay home. ‬

‪We also hope organisers will take this opportunity to advertise their new dates at Virtual Con if they’ve had to reschedule – or even if they haven’t! There’s no substitute for a real-life convention; they’re the backbone of the community. These organisers enable us all to come together & meet our friends, our favourite actors and performers, and they put absolutely awesome shows which create lifelong memories!‬

‪The £2 entry fee for Virtual Con & all money raised on the day by The Geek Asylum will go to the World Health Organisation’s Covid-19 solidarity response.‬

‪The Geek Asylum will present this on Facebook as a virtual alternative to the comic con, and maybe something that our experienced organiser friends can build on & improve. ‬

‪We have guests such as Kevin McNally (aka Joshamee Gibbs from Pirates of the Caribbean) & puppeteer Toby Philpott (Return of the Jedi, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal) involved, as well as well-known faces from Star Wars, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones and more. ‬
