Review: 2000 AD – Prog 2176

Some thoughts on this week’s 2000 AD – with a censored front cover.

Of course, if you want to see the real one, you’ll have to see the *spoilers*

JUDGE DREDD: THE BIRD LADY OF AL CAPONE by Kenneth Niemand (w) Nick Dyer (a) Barbara Nosenzo (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

A one-shot Dredd story. I enjoyed this – it shows a softer side to Dredd. He isn’t afraid to go against his instincts and to trust in others. In this case, it’s a crazy bird lady. I like the way it is set – in the clean up of Chaos Day. There’s a little bit of regret there from Dredd.

SURVIVAL GEEKS: CRISIS OF INFINITE NERDS by Emma Beeby, Gordon Rennie (w) Neil Googe (a) Gary Caldwell (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

We get a look at some of the ‘other’ Survival Geeks in round one of this multi-dimensional battle royale. It seems to be hitting on all the different tropes of the different types of people, and I expect we’re going to see more. There seems to be something extra behind it though.

SKIP TRACER: NIMROD by James Peaty (w) Paul Marshall (a) Dylan Teague (c) Simon Bowland (l)

The level of the threat is shown here. This is like Legion, but something more. We see a possible vision of the future and something to come. Nimrod is on a mission, and it looks like he will get his way!

AQUILA: THE BURNING FIELDS by Gordon Rennie (w) Patrick Goddard (a) Pippa Bowland (c) Jim Campbell (l)

We finally get to the reason why Aquila is blind. And it’s a bloody lead up to it all. I like the way it is all set up and Aquila looks to have come prepared. Things don’t go well and the blindness is an equaliser though.

Yep – You’re going to have to wait for that!
