Reviews: Belle: Oath Of Thorns & Red Agent: Island of Dr. Moreau

Some thoughts on the final issue of Belle: Oath of Thorns and the continuing adventures of Red Agent and the Island of Dr. Moreau!

Belle: Oath Of Thornes #6

It’s Belle vs CHIP as Belle has become public enemy number one to the cryptid hunting organization. Everything is on the line here. Lives will be lost and everything Belle’s come to know as her life will change forever. Don’t miss this last chapter of Belle: Oath of Thorns!

Completing the story arc and setting up for the future. This was an all-action issue of Belle, and it was violent and well told. Belle had some really interesting moments, and her family are well done. We got it all in this issue – guns, family, fights, head-chopping and turtles (really). I like the finish with Alex and Stick, it works really well and sets up some potential storylines.
We don’t have long to wait as Belle is going to be in a one-shot soon.

Red Agent Island of Dr. Moreau #4

Now imprisoned on the island, and stripped of their powers, Red and Avril are shocked by the depths of Moreau’s madness, and by the strange society that she has created.  They’re also surprised to learn that some of her creatures display far more humanity than their creator.  And that humanity might be the key to saving their lives, after Moreau has them released into the jungle in order to be hunted down by the hybrids.

Writer:  Brian Studler
Artwork:  Jason Muhr

This issue was all set-up for the final issue. Dr. Moreau has made her plans clear and the way she treats others is very interesting – I get the feeling there may be some poetic justice for her in the end. Red and Avril are suitably shocked at not only the plans but the way she treats her ‘children’. It does give them a way out, and at the end of it all, a way to really get involved (and a reason). Next issue should be a knock-down battle!
