Review: Transformers #21

The rise of the Decepticons continues with Transformers #21 from IDW Publishing.

“Rise of the Decepticons” continues! There are certain members of the Rise that if captured by Security Operations, would be bad news for both sides. When a convoy of them are being moved from one secret base to another, the only thing that could set them off track is a massive groundquake… which means the geologic survey team looking into Cybertron’s recent seismic events is about to be outgunned and outmatched.

Megatron is making his play and the lines are being drawn in the upcoming civil war on Cybertron. I like the way that Megatron announces and we get the point of view from both Bumblebee and Orion Pax. I think that Prime’s reaction is going to make things worse – and I get the feeling that others think that too.

Meanwhile we get a good bit of action between the two opposing forces. With land, bot and sky battles with the open space, this was really well done. The Decepticons may have the individual skills, but the Autobots worked well as a team. The tease at the end was really well done, as was the reveal.

The art continues to be excellent, with the fight scene working really well – I like the smoke and cover too.

This continues to be an excellent strong series.
