Review: Shang #3

Shang #3 out now from Zenescope Entertainment completes the mini-series about Shang’s days before Grimm Fairy Tales…

Trapped in the mysterious and magical realm of Myst, Shang and Mulan are desperate to find a way back to Earth in order to confront the sorceress, Daji. In order to do so, however, they must find a way to save Myst from the corruption that has gripped it.

This issue completes the mini-series well. It puts Shang on the path that we know will lead him in the Grimm Fairy Tales and adds something for the future.

There is a lot of action in this issue, with battles against dragons and more. I like the way that Shang and Mulan work together and there are some good moves between them – they both had some equal roles of the dice.

The fight scenes were well choreographed and there is some excellent art to go with it. I like the final battle and the conclusion.

There is an interesting epilogue here, and I like how it is a double tease for the future.

I did wonder what this mini-series was going to bring to the wider Grimm Universe, but it looks to link back nicely and something to refer back to when the time comes.

You can get Shang #3 from Zenescope Entertainment digitally on Amazon and ComiXology.
