Review – Belle: Sirens

A new Belle one-shot this week from Zenescope Entertainment with Belle fighting the Sirens from mythology.

Belle’s life has been non-stop with all that the supernatural corner of her world has been throwing at her recently. Finally, she’s ready to lay back and relax with a nice vacation away from it all. But, it wouldn’t be a day, vacation or not, for Belle without some kind of creature throwing a wrench in her plans. They say there is nothing like a great song to put you in a good mood, but Belle is going to be doing anything but enjoying what these creatures have to say when she takes on an ancient civilization of Sirens!

You know Belle isn’t going to have a normal holiday….

What got me with this comic was that I though it would be a normal monster-of-the-week type story, where it just keeps the character Belle in the mind of readers while the build for the big story continues.

What we get is a new type of problematic monster, but also something more.

The way that Belle is ‘persuaded’ to go in and fight these monsters is interesting, but not as interesting as the person (or persons) doing it. It is a blast from the past for Belle and goes right back to some of her early adventures. It’s well done, and adds a new dimension that could be interesting in the future for Belle.

In the meantime though, there are the Sirens to fight, and they are a good monster to use. Their viciousness is well shown in the opening pages and there are some excellent fight scenes on show here.

The artwork is excellent, giving the artist a chance to show some classic vistas, action scenes and some of the more fantastic elements (and the sirens)

This was a good read, and something a little unexpected in terms of the story – especially with an interesting addition at the end of the story. Something new for Belle and some new stories to come in the future.

You can get Bell: Sirens digitally from Zenescope Entertainment on Amazon/ComiXology.
