Review: Transformers #31

From IDW Publishing this week is the start of a new arc in Transformers #31.

“Lord of Misrule: Test Flight I”. Optimus Prime’s Autobots are starting to fray. They need energon and supplies that they just don’t have access to. But Perceptor has a plan—if he can supercharge Jumpstream’s teleportation powers, the Autobots will have all sorts of new access to Cybertron. Of course, that relies on the experiment going right and things can never be quite so easy…

A bit of a jump forward and things don’t look good. Megatron is consolidating his power and things are looking bad for the Autobots.
Optimus Prime meets up with Ultra Magnus, and it’s good to see the two of them get together. I expect we shall see their action soon.

Meanwhile, the energon problem is getting bad.
Luckily, Perceptor has a plan – a teleportation device. He needs to test it though. What follows is a madcap bounce around Cybertron and beyond. I like the way this was shown, and the different locations around the planet. The final jump is somewhere else, and I’m sure we will learn more about that in the future.

This was a pretty quick read of an issue. I like the pacing though, and it was a lot more fun than I expected. There is some serious bits near the beginning. The rest had me smiling throughout (until the last page…)

There is some excellent art and scenes, with some brilliant colouring.

This is an interesting start to something different.
