Review: 2000 AD – Prog 2249

Story arcs come to a close before next week’s jumping on point in this week’s 2000 AD from Rebellion – this is Prog 2249.

  • UK and DIGITAL: 15 September £3.10
  • NORTH AMERICA: 27 October $31 (per pack)
  • DIAMOND: JUL211885
  • COVER: PAUL MARSHALL (A) DYLAN TEAGUE (C)

Judge Dredd: The House on Bleaker Street by Kenneth Niemand (w) Nick Percival (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)

This horror story takes some of what came before and adds something else. Dredd’s reactions are excellent, and there is a possibility that this could be something that could return. Or something like this. What else is left over? I loved the art in this, it matched the story well.

Skip Tracer: Eden by James Peaty (w) Paul Marshall (a) Dylan Teague (c) Jim Campbell (l)

A happy ending, weird. I like the way it all finished, I wonder if this is the last we will see of Nolan, or are we going to get some father/daughter adventures? Nevertheless, it’s good to see some of the loose ends tied up.

Tharg’s 3rillers present The Mask of Laverna by Robert Murphy (w) Steven Austin (a) Matt Soffe (c) Simon Bowlan (l)

There are some teases of something more here. I wonder if there will be a return. I like the story and the concepts though. Some good uses of mythology in the modern world.

Jaegir: The Path of Kali by Gordon Rennie (w) Simon Coleby (a) Len O’Grady (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

More of a beginning than an ending. The sign of things to come, and I wonder what path that will lead us. It’s hard to know who to root for in these stories sometimes. A good tease of new stories though.

Terror Tales: The Thing in Cell 4 by John Tomlinson (w) Silvia Califano (a)

A really dark story here, and in keeping with some of the others in this issue. I like the buildup and the finish – there was some really nasty bits too.
